Brian Harman is currently playing in THE PLAYERS Championship 2024 at the TPC Sawgrass, and is doing exceptionally well! With him being in top-5 with the forth round beginning, the chances are that he might just take $4.5 million home. For his exceptional golfing skills, his father is to thank!

According to Harman, his father set his course from baseball to golf and guided him through. The PGA Tour player’s parents, Dr. Eric Harman and Nancy Harman, have had his back during his personal and professional journey. His parents live in Savannah with his younger brother Scott and his wife, Laurel. While golf is not a big deal for them, there is so much more to know about them.

Why did Eric suggest Brian Harman to pursue golf?

Harman is a lot like his mother when it comes to his behavior. Nancy is a chemist by profession. “I definitely have an active brain. For me, it’s hard getting out of my own head and letting things happen, not trying to control every single situation,” said Harman to Golf Digest.

But the golfer’s father is a dentist and has his clinic in Savannah. He lived in Augusta from 1981–84 during his DMD at the Medical College of Georgia and used to rush back to his hometown during the Masters as the entire town used to get shutdown and the holistic sport did not interest him much. Surprisingly, he was the one who suggested his elder son switch from baseball to golf if he wanted to be an athlete. But why?

Well because Harman was a “tiny little dude” who would have had trouble being successful in golf. The golfer knew that he was good at baseball but he was not “big enough” to play.

In 2015, when his son first played in the Masters, Eric mentioned while talking to Savannah Morning News that “I would not go if Brian wasn’t playing, and “I’m honestly not a huge fan of golf.” But he could not attend the event! Continue reading to find out! As it clearly seems, the golfer’s parents are not huge golf fans, but they support their son when he competes on the greens.

Eric and Nancy Harman’s support for their son on the course

The 37-year-old golfer’s parents attend most of his PGA Tours and travel as far as Hawaii to cheer him up and show their support. They have always been there for him, at every level, whether it’s at his amateur, collegiate, or now professional level. They have attended PGA Tour events taking place in St. Simon’s Island, Hilton Head Island, Jacksonville, South Florida, and in other places.

Harman has also mentioned that his “family members are world-class scuba divers and spear fishers.” Family members sure include his parents too along with his brother. Even the golfer himself likes to fish and hunt! Eric and Nancy also enjoyed a dive in Maui a few years ago and they loved it. If truth be told, Harmans prefer fishing over golf! Why? Because Brian’s family was not present in person to witness their son’s debut at the Augusta National.

The entire Harman family along with a few friends was on a fishing trip on the west coast of Florida, when the 2015 Masters was underway. They enjoyed his debut by watching him play on TV. Nancy was elated to see her son witness his dream and said, “That was his lifelong dream to play on the PGA Tour and play in the Masters—the dream of every PGA player.” Further, she added about how she liked the game and said, “That was just fabulous.”
