The incorporation of LIV Golf late last year sparked a war between LIV Golf and the PGA Tour. And when the Saudi-backed league went and poached many stars from the opposing side, the war escalated dramatically. The feud between the two sides has only gotten worse since. LIV recently made a power move that they believe will aid them in this battle. They appointed Jimmy Dunne to their ranks.

The ongoing feud between the two leagues
Earlier this year, 11 players who defected to LIV Golf joined forces to file an antitrust lawsuit against the PGA Tour. The players included the likes of Phil Mickelson, Bryson DeChambeau, and Ian Poulter. They claimed that the PGA’s restrictive policies were an attempt to ensure that other players do not sign with LIV Golf so that LIV will be unable to compete with them.

Later that month, LIV Golf also joined in as a plaintiff in the lawsuit, and said in a statement, “The players are right to have brought this action to challenge the PGA’s anti-competitive rules and to vindicate their rights as independent contractors to play where and when they choose.” They claimed that the PGA Tour had coerced and threatened sponsors and vendors, ensuring they left LIV Golf.
In September, the PGA Tour took its own steps, filing a counter-suit against LIV Golf. The Tour accused LIV of interfering with their players’ contracts. Since then, players and members from both sides have been lashing out at each other.
The PGA Tour makes its next move
Just this week, the PGA Tour announced the appointment of Jimmy Dunne. Dunne will be an independent director on their policy board starting next year. Jimmy is an elite golf insider known for his candor.

Dunne’s job is to basically ensure that none of the existing Tour players leaves and sign with LIV Golf. He described his appointment as a “war-time deal.” He showed off his openness while talking about LIV’s CEO, Greg Norman. He said, “I wouldn’t want to work for Greg Norman. I like people who are absolutely credible, more worried about fact than sizzle, and are reliable.”
