It seems Luke Donald has proved to be a true skipper for his teammate. The captain of the 2023 European Ryder Cup team came forward a while back to share his opinion on the Player of the Year Award given out by the PGA Tour. Moreover, he did so while mentioning how Ludvig Aberg should also be eligible for the Rookie of the Year Award in 2024.

In a surprising announcement to the community, the 46-year-old did so while conveying how the Swedish golfer only got “on Tour in June.” Moreover, while extending a hand of support to the professional, Donald made sure to point out how the young athlete could win both the Player of the Year and the Rookie of the Year awards in 2024, the latter of which was won by Eric Cole in 2023!

It seems the Swede has managed to catch the eyes of many through his excellent gameplay on the course. Moreover, his talents even helped him clinch a spot on the European Ryder Cup team, becoming the only player in history to make it to the squad before participating in a major!

Ludvig Aberg’s successful debut year in professional golf

The 24-year-old, after turning pro in June, managed to finish a total of four times on both the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour before the prestigious tournament. However, what caught the attention of the skipper was none other than his win at the Omega European Masters, following which he was named as the captain’s wild card pick for the team.

I was blown away.” said an impressed Donald while referring to the Swedish athlete and his victory at the European Masters. Adding on, he expressed how the young pro would become “one of golf’s superstars” down the lane owing to the amount of confidence or ease displayed by the 1X DP World Tour champ.
