LIV Golf and PGA Tour’s tussle with Lexi Thompson caught in the middle

A Saudi league-loyal Twitter page, LIV Golf Insider, has made comments about the Shriners Open and the participation of Lexi Thompson. The tweet claimed that 1/3 of the “men” in the Shriners Open performed worse than a female golfer who hasn’t won on the LPGA Tour in five years.

This was a jib at Thompson. The tweet further went on, suggesting that the PGA Tour is “officially irrelevant.” The tweet also brought in LIV Golf and exalted the series. “#LIVGolf has always been the future of professional golf,” it stated.

The message, as per the LIV loyalists, was clear: the PGA Tour was losing its prominence, and LIV was the go-to place for intense male golfing competition! Sadly, though, it was Thompson’s incredible feat that was dredged through the mud amongst it all!

The tweet ended up gathering a lot of attention for every word it posted and receiving some really insightful comments from fans and readers.

The golf community comes to Thompson’s defense

As the tweet went viral, the fans were quick to jump to Lexi Thompson’s defense. They did not like seeing her feat belittled.

One fan pointed out how she can win a LIV event as well.

Another fan jumped to her support by calling this a funny tweet.

Other fans bashed up the tweet for showing down the PGA Tour and also pointed out how players who are dropped out by the PGA Tour end up going to the LIV Golf Tour.

Some also praised Lexi’s average driving distance and bashed LIV golfers for not being able to match up to it.

Another fan pointed out that LIV golfers will probably be tired of missing cuts on the PGA Tour, which is why they joined the rival league.
