When Lexi Thompson received an invitation to compete in a PGA Tour event, there was a lot of applause. However, there were some damp remarks as well. While many golfers and fans felt proud of Thompson, some felt that this was an unnecessary deal. They expected her to perform badly and trolled her when she did. The numbers may be few, but the trolls were noticeable.
Lexi Thompson was not alone, though. She received support from people who believed in her and who admired her skill and talent. One of them being the golf queen herself, Paige Spiranac. And now, recently, another golfer has joined the list. Amid her recent injury struggles that involve inflammation around the bones, this probably comes as a healing aid.

Ahead of ‘The Annika’ event, Stacy Lewis spoke to the press, and the conversation also touched upon Lexi Thompson. Stacy Lewis received a question about Thompson’s stint at the Shriner’s Open, and how the experience could impact her performance further.
Lewis first addressed the fact that Thompson played really well. She spoke about how her ball-striking was more aggressive in the Shriners and how that could be good for her. She claimed that her aggression with the driver improved a lot in the event due to the nature of the golf course.
The Solheim-Cup 2023 captain opined that while Thompson’s putting is already brilliant, and “her ball striking had been the thing holding her back.” She further said, “I hope she can learn from that moment and stay aggressive with driver even on some of those shorter golf courses.”
Lewis spoke about how she wanted Thompson to make the cut and it would have been cool. She also insisted that Thompson playing well didn’t surprise her at all, and anyone who has been following her would know what she is capable of. She appreciated her for hitting well under pressure. A few days back, when Thompson was trolled online for not making the cut, Paige Spiranac readily came to support her. She backed Thompson and voiced her protest against the trolls boldly.

The Shriner’s Open was a PGA Tour event, and Lexi Thompson was the only female golfer in the field. She is the seventh female golfer to receive an honorary invite to a PGA Tour event. This appeared pointless to some golfers and several fans also expressed their disinterest.
There was also a debate about whether Thompson teed off from a closer point, or with the men. Paige Spiranac registered the fact that Thompson did tee off with everybody else, and played quite well in the event. She scored a 69 in the second round, but couldn’t make the cut. Spiranac went on to commend Thompson for her display of skill, despite what the numbers looked like.
