The 3-time major winner Nancy Lopez wants to give the PGA Tour golfer Jordan Spieth a chance to do over. A chance to take a deep breath before he takes his shot at the par-3 12th hole at the 2016 Masters so that he can change his fate.

“If you could give a mulligan to any player in golf history, who would it be and why?” While Golf Today tweeted this, they would have never guessed they would get a deep answer for it, and that too from a legendary golfer.

Spieth was in contention to win the Masters for the second time in a row in 2016. When he thought he could see the green jacket coming toward him, the young golfer didn’t realize that his bogey at the Golden Bell would cost him a major.

The then 22-year-old Spieth didn’t just make a bogey, he made a quadruple-bogey at the par-3 12th hole. He hit the ball straight into the water, not once but twice. “I didn’t take that extra deep breath,” Spieth later explained what had happened to him at the time. “And really focus on my line on 12.”

According to the World Golf Hall of Famer Nancy Lopez, Spieth has never been the same ever since and she is not wrong.

After his quadruple-bogey incident in 2016, Spieth went to the Masters next year to not make the same mistake again. The golfer was just 2-shots behind the leader on the field in the final round. However, the Golden Bell struck again as he made a double-bogey this time.

Spieth once again had a chance to win the Masters in 2018. However, the golfer made a double-bogey at the 72nd hole and lost it.

Fast forward to 2022, the 12th hole gave another nightmare to the golfer as he repeated the same mistake. He once again shot the ball to the water, not once but twice. The shot cost him to make a triple-bogey this time. Unlike other times, Spieth didn’t make the bogey in the last round but in the second. As a result, the golfer couldn’t make a cut this time.

It only took him 2 years to win his first Masters since he joined the PGA Tour. However, it has been more than 6 years since his last and only Green Jacket. The golfer certainly needs a mulligan like the LPGA legend Nancy Lopez has suggested for him to win one more time.
