Before the iconic showdown, while many players had their dreams realized after being picked to play in Rome, there were some whose hearts were broken. LIV golfer Bryson DeChambeau was one such golfer whose 2023 Ryder Cup aspirations ended when he wasn’t picked by Zach Johsnon. However, that did not kill his patriotic spirit.
Americans wanted to end their 30-year losing streak on foreign soil. Instead, they experienced a different historic downhill moment. Day 1 was a nightmare for Zach Johnson’s squad, to all intents and pursposes.

The patriotic event is happening at Marco Simone Golf Course and Club in Rome, Italy. Zach Johnson had picked the six players to complete the squad, while the other six automatically qualified. All his picks were justified but there was one call very few agreed with.
Justin Thomas was picked over Bryson DeChambeau for Team USA despite the former’s lack of form during this season. Johnson’s reason was that he could not leave JT at home, but due to that, the pro LIV golfer lost his chance to fight for national glory despite his splendid season.
Mr.58 was honest about the shocker and said the things were not in his hands. But with Team America trailing by five points after day one, he could not contain his wishes for his country. Ahead of Day 2 in Rome, he took to Twitter and wrote, “Rooting for a big comeback in Rome #RyderCupUSA.”

His Ryder Cup record at Whistling Straits was 2-0-1. And he won his Sunday singles against the patriotic showdown’s great Sergio Garcia. Despite that, DeChambeau was not selected. While talking about Zach Johnson’s decision, he admitted that it would have been nice if he had at least got a call from the captain.

Herculean task for Team USA now
The morning foursomes on Friday saw a score of 4-0 with Europe in the lead. Team USA lost all the matches, but there were hopes of coming back into the contest during the afternoon fourballs. They did well but not to the desired extent.
Day one of the Ryder Cup has Europe written all over it with a 6.5-1.5 score. Zach Johnson’s team has to win at least 12.5 points from 20 available points to retain the cup. To win it outright, they would need 13 points more.
