The Saturday of the Ryder Cup saw the Northern Irishman having an argument with Patrick Cantlay’s looper, Joe LaCava. Following this, McIlroy was spotted shouting against Justin Thomas‘ caddie, Jim ‘Bones’ McKay, who tried to diffuse the earlier situation. And now, it has been revealed that another bagman, Ricky Elliot, was involved in the same.

A tweet was uploaded by NUCLR GOLF onto their social media handle, which mentions new details from the incident that happened during the biennial tournament. The post discloses how Elliot told Fred Couples that ‘Rors’ had taken to the looper in anger owing to the LaCava event.

Couples revealed that the LIV golfer’s bagman recounted how McIlroy was fuming.“[He] went at me (Elliot) in the middle of the foyer at the hotel,” said the caddie. Moreover, this took place as tensions continued to rise upon the arrival of the team to the hotel in the evening after the Saturday fourballs.

One can’t help but get reminded of the whole incident that the 34-year-old Northern Irishman had with Cantlay’s caddie. But it does make any golf fan curious as to what the professional said in response to the same.

McIlroy and his response to the LaCava incident

Following the heated discussion, “Rors” went off on JT’s looper due to the minor altercation with LaCava. But even so, the 24X PGA Tour pro was quick to apologize to McKay as he recounted how the professional did call him up to express his regret over the same.

Moreover, he made sure to clarify how the outburst was directed at Cantlay’s bagman, but ‘Bones’ came to be on the receiving end since he was the first American McIlroy saw after exiting the hotel. Nevertheless, he stood by his actions as the 4X major winner pointed out that he let it “fuel the fire” on the last day, resulting in a 16.5–11.5 margin for the European team.
