The golfing world is about to undergo a complete transformation at the end of the year. This change will be seen if and when golf’s most important bodies in the United States of America and North America finally come together. The tours in the reckoning are the PGA Tour, LIV Golf, and the DP World Tour aka the European Tour or the PGA European Tour.
The DP World Tour announced the opening up of its membership for fresh members from the PGA Tour. The timeline for the merger was at the end of the year, but it looks like it may not be followed. So, it seems that the DP World Tour is wasting no time in welcoming new PGA tour members into its fray.

On October 23, 2023, the DP World Tour put forth its intention to grow its family of professional golfers. The DP World Tour official handle on Twitter / X posted, “The DP World Tour today announces new membership opportunities for PGA TOUR members in its 2024 season.”
The official website of the European Tour states the details of the membership offer, which will be in two categories: “(i) Full membership of the DP World Tour available for players who finish in positions 126 to 200 on the 2022-2023 FedExCup Fall Points List; or (ii) Affiliate Membership of the DP World Tour available to any other PGA TOUR Member when participating in any Race to Dubai ranking tournament in the 2024 season.”
It further informs that the “Affiliate Members and Non-Members” will now appear in a separate “Non-Member Race to Dubai Points List”.

It is obvious that this strategic move by the DP World Tour has been done in conjunction with the PGA Tour. This is ahead of the patch-up or due to the delay in the patch-up. In June 2023, a merger was proposed between the major golf associations of the USA–the PGA Tour, LIV Golf, and DP World Tour – within six months.

However, the deal amongst the golfing giants is not expected to be completed before the December 31 deadline. The agreement between the three golf tours is under investigation by the US Justice Department with regard to an antitrust probe. The three golfing bodies are in discussion on how to tackle the challenge as the deal needs to be closed within the deadline.

Implications of the merger
Golf enthusiasts around the world took notice when it was proposed that all three major golf tours of the USA would work together as a single company. If the merger happens, the financial transactions of the three golf tours will be considered one. Moreover, the Public Investment Fund (PIF) of Saudi Arabia will step in to finance the new body.
Also, it has come to light that the patch-up of the PGA Tour, LIV Golf, and DP World Tour is of special interest to some PGA Tour golfers. These sportspersons are keen to acquire a stake in the merged entity. In fact, they are also involved in the negotiations for the creation of the new entity.
