Two legends of the game, Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, are currently at different tangents in their careers. While Lefty is playing in the Saudi League, the 15-time major champion spends most of his days away from the course recovering from his injury. However, their two tangents do intersect at one point too—the Ryder Cup!
Both the golf greats are mere spectators at this year’s International face-off since they’re not officially part of the team. However, that hasn’t stopped them from giving advice to the younger generation. But the infamous rivalry creeps into their words as well. Their advice somehow has a knack for sounding worlds apart yet similar in one aspect: loving golf.

LIV Golf will move to Rich Harvest Farms in Chicago next week. Amid that, during a practice session with Bryson DeChambeau, HyFlyers captain Phil Mickelson offered some advice to the up-and-coming golfers! In a recent Instagram reel posted by Crushers GC, The Scientist asked him, “There’s gonna be a lot of kids watching this. What would you have to say to the kids that are looking at the HyFlyers and looking what you guys stand for?”
Mickelson, on hearing the question, instantly responded, “I think team golf is awesome, and a college experience is special. There’s no need to rush through life. Like, enjoy the process; enjoy every moment of it because my college experience was incredible.”
The 6-time major winner also expressed that he is hopeful about the future of golf being more team-based than individual. “And I am also very hopeful that by the time these young kids come out and play professionally, they have an option to be a part of a team and a part of something special and unique.”

Mickelson cited a similar reason when he shifted to the LIV league. A fresh start, a progressive format, and an exciting opportunity were three pillars he chose instead of staying on the PGA Tour. He now wishes that for future golfers as well. Although his advice is sound, it is quite different than that of his rival, Tiger Woods, who recently had words of wisdom for golf enthusiasts too!
Tiger Woods offers words of wisdom to amateurs
Earlier in September, Tiger Woods was at the Liberty National for Nexus Cap. It was an exclusive amateur competition, hosting 18 teams. And the 15-time major winner made his presence felt with his words. It turns out his words are as impactful as his swings!
Take it as an older generation’s perspective or experience speaking from their best years; Tiger Wood’s advice was straightforward. Interestingly, the first words came more from a fan than from him! While Woods was at the tee, an amateur was questioning him about tips he had for the golf world when another fan screamed from the background, telling the amateur to avoid watching YouTube!

The legendary golfer marked his agreement with the tip with a chuckle! His second bit of advice was about gaining direct experience. As per the 15-time major champion, nothing will teach you about the course like “beating balls” would.

Whether it is Lefty’s way of not rushing through the game and life and embracing your moments with it. Or Woods’ preference of being on the ground, feeling the green, and hitting the ball as much as possible. Both of them agree that cherishing and being with the game will take you far.
