Remember Jim Furyk and his “Go f**k yourself” comment? The skipper sure does. It all happened around a week before the start of the Presidents Cup when an interviewer hinted at the need for the International team to emerge victorious. The reason? Well, it was so that the biennial event could end up more exciting. And exciting it did turn out for the reporter as Furyk recalled the whole conversation along with some unexpected reveals, courtesy of the assistant captains.

The 54-year-old veteran was spotted alongside his team in an interview following his win at the prestigious event. “For the record, I was never angry with Adam [Schupak],” divulged the skipper as he recounted the F-bomb that he dropped in response to the journalist’s remarks. “I did say that without a doubt, but we got a chuckle out of it.”

If you think that the two now hold a strained relationship… you thought wrong! For he confessed how both of them were on good terms before making fun of the reporter while alluding to the victory by the American team. “Adam and I, we’re always good,” said Furyk. “I was a little surprised you were rooting for the other team. You have to stand now and look at all these guys. It was fun.”

The journalist then swiftly tried to correct the golfer by denying his so-called-‘allegations’ of wanting the International team to win. “No, I didn’t,” responded Shupack as he clarified his position, “I said, don’t hate me, but I wouldn’t hate it if the other team won.” Suffice it to say, that statement elicited a chorus of boos from the people present there.

The story doesn’t end there either, for Jim Furyk further recalled his assistant captains dishing out their version of F-bombs as well. “My favorite part of it was when — after the first presser when we came in, we did our pairings, and I walked out,” recounted the skipper. “I actually gave you a little fist bump, and two of my assistants told you to go F yourself. That was my favorite.” The reporter sure did receive quite a bit of backlash for his earlier comments that made their captain lose their cool.

What made Jim Furyk so mad ahead of the Presidents Cup?

“For the sake of the future of the biennial competition,” highlighted Shupack, “We needed the equivalent of Eastern Michigan to take down mighty Notre Dame.” He said so while comparing the mighty ‘Notre Dame’ to America in an interview with Furyk just after the wildcard picks were made public. Quite a controversial thing to say, especially when you’re talking to the U.S. skipper.

Unfortunately, he found that out the hard way as a reply came ever-so-swiftly from the captain’s mouth. “So it’s not like I’m killing you right now,” responded Furyk as he added, “But F**k you. Go f**k yourself. You can quote me on that one.” He then went ahead to point out how much of a “shi**y thing” it was to say before he rebuked Shupack for saying the same. “You should know better. I’d rather you not even say good luck than say it and not even mean it.” Well, it seems like the reporter did get a lot of flak from the skipper as well as the captain for his remarks.
