Is Elon Musk's X becoming too toxic, or is Nick Faldo overreacting to content changes?

Elon Musk’s handling of X has riled a few. The latest high-profile star to leave the social media platform is six-time major winner Nick Faldo and his wife Lindsay. The Englishman announced that he and his wife will stop using their personal accounts from this week, citing Musk’s recent content policy changes.

The six-time major champion decried Musk’s decision to allow blocked accounts to view posts. The blocked persons won’t be able to engage (like, comment, share), however. Faldo’s business accounts will remain active nonetheless.

The 67-year-old said in his statement, “While we appreciate the free speech forum that the brilliant Elon Musk has encouraged and developed, we feel the growing number of posts with overly explicit content, including violent images, disturbing videos, and aggressive language, is not of interest to us or healthy for anyone to experience.” Not everyone finds it very reasonable, however.

Greg Norman Jr. responding to a post from NUCLR Golf tweeted, “It’s an algorithm. It is designed to show you content you engage with. It’s (sic!) simple to curate your X experience to what you want and don’t want to see.” He also attached a screenshot of the user policy and content feed with the post.

To one user who commented that nowadays there are too many bots (automated accounts), the Europa Labs Inc. CEO replied people should use the ‘Following’ tab instead of the ‘For You’ one. There are now two tabs on X; one shows posts only from the users you are following. The other curates the feed for you, judging by your browsing preferences.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Elon Musk's X becoming too toxic, or is Nick Faldo overreacting to content changes?

Have an interesting take?

Nevertheless, Norman Jr. taking a slight dig at Faldo is not all that surprising. While the two haven’t engaged in a bitter war of words, Faldo has never hidden his despise for the league Norman Jr.’s father runs.

Nick Faldo rarely spared a chance to taunt LIV Golf

Nick Faldo, whose one of three Masters triumphs came against Greg Norman in 1996, has been a staunch critic of LIV Golf, headed by the Great White Shark. Earlier this year, Faldo downplayed Jon Rahm’s success in the PIF-funded side by noting that the Spaniard has been playing at ‘resort courses’.

In more recent times, the 67-year-old joked that Tyrrell Hatton was finally playing a ‘proper tournament’ at the Betfred British Masters, a DP World Tour event Faldo hosts. Interestingly, he also termed the Greg Norman-fronted league as damaging to the public attitude of golf. None of that sat well with LIV Golf fans on X.

Nevertheless, Nick Faldo leaving the Musk-fronted social media site has more reasons than one. Only a month back Donald Trump hailed Faldo’s talent on the greens and hinted the British International is welcome to join his government. That is if the former POTUS comes back to power.

Internet was rife with speculation of Faldo’s future in politics. More so, because his wife, Lindsay, is a known Trump supporter. The six-time major champion has to issue a public statement clarifying that it was a joke and he didn’t have any intention of joining politics. The announcement to leave X came within a month of that.
