The golf world is rife with news surrounding the top players of the game. On one side, we have Tiger Woods and his partner Justin Timberlake suffering a major setback in their proposed sports entertainment venture while on the other hand, Brooks Koepka emerged victorious at the LIV Golf event in Jeddah.

However, the 2023 PGA Championship winner wasn’t all smiles at the event owing to a tragic end he faced during the tournament. And, joining his LIV counterpart is none other than Phil Mickelson, who himself had a rough competition, all the while receiving a wake-up call of sorts!

Although Koepka won the event in Jeddah, taking home a cut of $4 million, the 33-year-old couldn’t celebrate wholeheartedly since his younger brother ended up in last position in the 2023 leaderboard. This led to him being relegated out of the league along with one of Mickelson’s teammates.

James Piot, the fourth member of HyFlyers GC, was already under scrutiny for his lower position on the leaderboard. The 25-year-old was placed just above the younger Koepka. However, when one is to take a closer look at Mickelson, it can be understood that he fared just a bit better.

The 45X PGA Tour champ could only put up a sub-par performance in Jeddah as he finished at T31 with a total of 5-under 205. What’s more, he placed himself at the 39th position, also known as the ‘Open Zone’ in the 2023 standings.

The zone would give them free agency and the possibility of re-signing with their own team. But it does not promise a spot in the next year’s season. However, a team leader like Mickelson wouldn’t need to re-sign since he is already guaranteed a spot in the PIF-funded league in the next year owing to him being a captain.

The 6X major winner can be dubbed as a lucky golfer since he narrowly escaped from being under scrutiny. However the same couldn’t be said for his nemesis, Tiger Woods, and his partner.

Tiger Woods and his new venture in St. Andrews

The GOAT partnered up with Justin Timberlake and NEXUS Luxury Collection to open up a new sports entertainment venture in St. Andrews. As per the program, the New Picture House Cinema was planned to be turned into a golf bar, with simulators, duckpin bowling, darts, and large-screen televisions to stream sporting events.

However, a petition to block the hub has been going around for a while since the residents felt that the new project would only cater to rich tourists. Moreover, the people also pointed out how a vital part of the life of the town, that is cinema, would be stripped away despite David Morris, the manager of the theatre, voicing his support for Woods.
