When it rains, it pours! This is quite apt in the case of Justin Thomas who has fallen behind massively in the Open Championship race and now faces missing the cut. His deteriorating performance is under scrutiny by the golf world thanks to him being a featured player.

And after a diabolical performance yesterday, Thomas was badly roasted by a comparative study of his stats to that of John Daly who is chilling on the Liverpool course with his pack of cigarettes. Let’s find out who brought up the comparison and why it shows Thomas in a bad light.

To say that Justin played badly would-be sugar coating the struggling performance that he displayed yesterday at one of the biggest majors of the year. On Thursday, he finished with an 11-over 82 which included two birdies, five bogeys, two doubles, and a quadruple. His face said what his lips didn’t. He was in agony which was visible. His performance has become a hot debate in the golf world where many people are leaving no opportunity to roast him. And joining the league of trolls is the editor of Avid Golfer Magazine, Eli Jordan who made a comparison of Thomas with John Daly and their career stats.

Eli Jordan insinuated even John Daly, who hardly plays to win, has fared better than Thomas in the first round of the hallowed tournament.

Eli says,” John Daly is 57 and power puffs coffin nails by the pack day after day after day. He hasn’t won on Tour in 19 years. Justin Thomas is 30 and won a major championship a little over a year ago. Daly beat Thomas by five today at the Open. Golf is a wild sport, man.” Daly indeed had a better run at the event in comparison to Thomas. He finished with 77 with 7 over par. He also cleared the 2nd hardest hole no 14 in two strikes. And as Jordan said he was puffing cigarettes one after another all day long. Daly’s last win on the PGA Tour came in 2005 at the Buick Invitational but he remains unbothered by it.

Disappointing performance of Justin Thomas in the first round of Open Championship

This year the two-time PGA Champion has already missed the cut at the Masters and US Open which does not look good on his resume. And now his performance at the first round of the British Open was very disappointing. Firstly, he tried to deliver a trick shot over a bunker which failed miserably with the ball hitting the edge and falling back into the bunker. A miserable shot criticized by fans as well

Then he hit his drive out of bounds and took another shot and finished with a quadruple bogey nine. After the first round, his rank slipped to 150. Which is a big fall down for a featured group player. What do you think will he be able to turn his fortunes around on Friday and miraculously make the cut? Drop your comments below.
