When the conjecture around Rahm’s defection rumor became a reality, it caused a lot of commotion in the golfing world. During an interview, the 15X major champ did share his reaction to the jump, which was startling even for the pro.
In the press conference after the first round of the PNC Championship on Saturday, the American shared his thoughts behind the Spaniard joining the Saudi-backed league. Responding to the query, he said how “there’s been a lot of talk over the years of certain players going” while referring to players jumping to LIV Golf.
Adding on, the PGA Tour pro pointed out how “it was speculation until it happened because there’s been rumors of names going and not going and whether they materialized or not.” Continuing with his reaction, the 47-year-old divulged, “So we assumed it was just speculation till it happened,” all the while revealing how he thought it was nothing short of gossip when the news first hit the golf world.
Well, that’s what the former world No.1 said when he was asked about the LIV golfer’s defection. However, it was a different case for the current No.2 on the OWGR as Rory McIlroy expressed his support for the Spanish pro.

Rory McIlroy exudes support for Rahm
The Northern Irishman seems to have changed his stance on the Saudi-backed league after his fellow Ryder Cup teammate made the defection to the alternate circuit. The 34-year-old PGA Tour Pro went on to convey his support for the Spaniard playing in the biennial tournament as he pointed out how the athlete had been a “great teammate” during the same.
