Golf is without any doubt a difficult sport, both mentally and physically. There have been quite a few instances when golfers have shared how mentally challenging this sport can be and how people on the outside do not realize that. There are some golfers on the PGA Tour with exceptional skills, but they do not have a celebrated career like others.

One such golfer who has made his way to the FedEx Cup penultimate event, the BMW Championship, after displaying some great heroics in the St. Jude Championship, reminisced about his first Tour victory. He also talked about his astonishing comeback and how his brain works in difficult on-the-course situations.

Cam Davis is a PGA Tour pro with good skills but fewer wins to his name. For the last month, he has displayed stunning skills on the course and has finished in the top 10 on the leaderboard. At the Wyndham Championship, Davis finished in seventh place with a final score of 12 under.

He continued his form in the first playoff of the FedEx Cup in Memphis. In the scorching heat of Memphis, the golfer finished in sixth place with a final score of 11 under and won $583,285. These past two events have been close calls for the golfer to secure his second Tour victory. When the 28-year-old sat down with the media at the BMW Championship, his last two events were referred to as his do-or-die situations.

The interviewer asked how the golfer thinks he responds in such situations, and Davis was honest with his answer. He said that in such situations, his brain kind of turns off the inhibitors that are there. “I feel like I’ve got free reign,” stated the one-time PGAT winner, adding that he admires playing “without fear of making a mistake” at those times.

He said that there are times when his round is finished and it ends well, but his brain makes him feel like he could have made more birdies. It is only after some time that he realizes that “it was enough each time.” The PGA Tour pro said that he thinks he plays good golf in pressing situations and is confident that he can continue to do so.

Cam Davis shares some more insights about his career’s tough situations

Davis said that he has had a lot of difficult situations in his career. He shared that one of those came very early in his professional career when he lost his Tour card the first year he played on the PGA Tour. He shared that he then had to play a great nine holes in the Korn Ferry finals event to get his card back. Another moment he reminisced about was his 2021 Rocket Mortgage victory against Troy Merritt in a playoff.

The Australian golfer then said that every time he comes out of a situation of this kind, he always thinks about what he will do if he is in a similar situation next time, and it always pans out for him in his brain as he is sure that he will definitely do well.
