Bad news for Jon Rahm? The golf world was abuzz with news surrounding the rumored defection of Wyndham Clark and his ongoing talks to join the Spanish professional’s team. However, it appears the professional is not going to take part in the Saudi-backed league, courtesy of the next PGA Tour event.

A tweet was shared by Dan Rapaport on his X handle (previously known as Twitter), revealing the field for the upcoming AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. The post mentions how the athlete, who was speculated as the “next to go” following the likes of Adrian Meronk who is positively rumored to defect, has been confirmed to play in the PGA Tour’s second signature event of the season the same week LIV Golf begins its third season in Mayakoba.

As one of the most high-profile names to defect to LIV Golf as part of off-season signings, Clark continuing his career with the PGA Tour could be upsetting for Rahm since they are yet to announce his reported new team’s full roster. With 4x DP Tour winner Adrian Meronk likely to join LIV Golf, especially after citing illness as a reason for absence from Farmers Insurance, Clark would have been the third men’s major champion to be playing under the LIV Golf banner.

Although Clark never really entertained the rumors that connected him to the possible move to LIV, his name in the field alone stands as a testament that it is not yet time for him to jump ship.

Wyndham Clark dispels defection rumors

The men’s circuit, a while back, shared the names of the athletes who are committed to the upcoming PGA Tour signature event. Clark was made eligible owing to his T3 finish in the FedEx Cup standings back in 2023. What’s more, the tweet shared by the tour also divulges how the list of eligible players showcased in the same has been “committed” to play at the tourney.

There were a lot of rumors going back and forth surrounding the 30-year-old and his jumping ship to LIV Golf. A week ago, reports indicated how the talks had fallen through while mentioning how the Spanish professional might extend another offer to the 2023 U.S. Open champ or go ahead with another debutant.

However, further down the lane, another set of rumors started spinning in the mills. Following Meronk’s defection to the PIF-funded circuit, speculating about how Tyrrell Hatton is in talks of joining Legion XIII. But, surprisingly, soon after, rumors of Clark jumping back in on the negotiations to become the fourth member in place of the Englishman started to rise.

Unlike Clark who never confirmed that he was approached by LIV Golf, Hatton was very forward with keeping the media apprised. Speaking at the Dubai Desert Classic recently, he said,  “I’d say there’s several people who have had conversations. I think that’s part and parcel of golf at the moment, but I’m quite happy playing the PGA Tour and DP World Tour.” It is in the same presser that he confirmed that he is, as of right now, will continue play at the PGA Tour.

Well, now both Hatton and Clark have been committed to playing at the upcoming event. Even so, a slight chance of him defecting does remain, as can be seen from the Polish athlete withdrawing from the Farmers Insurance Open a day before the first round, followed by the surprising announcement of him joining the PIF-funded circuit the very next day. Although chances are slim, it is there. Nevertheless, only time can satiate the curiosity of the fans!
