July 21 saw two golfers emerge victorious on the men’s circuit. While Xander Schauffele won the 152nd Open at Royal Troon, Nick Dunlap managed to triumph over the field of athletes at the 2024 Barracuda Championship. As soon as the latter claimed the title, he was able to confirm his presence at the upcoming 3M Championship through a phone call with his mom. However, curiosity naturally arises: will the 2-time major champ also tee off at the upcoming tournament?

A total of 12 top-10 finishes in 2024! This is but a fraction of the impressive record that Schauffele holds. And to top it all off, he finished his latest start with nothing short of a victory at the 2024 Open Championship. Even so, as per the official field released by the PGA Tour, the athlete won’t be taking part in the contest to keep his momentum going!

The professional had done the same after he clinched the title of champion at the 2024 PGA Championship. The 30-year-old golfer did not participate in the Charles Schwab Challenge that followed the week after the second major of the season. But that hasn’t been the case with the other two majors.

Xander Schauffele could only place himself at T8 and T7 at the Masters and U.S. Open, respectively. Interestingly, after the two events, the golf world witnessed the 2-time major champ tee off at the tournaments that followed these two majors (the RBC Heritage after the Masters and the Travelers Championship after the U.S. Open). Although he failed to claim the top spot on the leaderboard, he was able to finish inside the top 10 in all four majors.

That’s not all. The Paris Olympics is set to kick off on July 26. Schauffele, being a part of the American team with Scottie Scheffler, Wyndham Clark, and Collin Morikawa, will have to tee off at the quadrennial games on August 1, the week following the 3M Open. He would also look forward to defending his title at the prestigious event!

Xander Schauffele to gear up for Olympics instead of the 3M Open

The 30-year-old had proven his skills back in 2020, even before he clinched two major victories. He beat Slovakia’s Rory Sabbatini by one stroke to claim the gold medal in the Tokyo Olympics. And now, with him coming into the quadrennial games fresh off a win at the Open, it paints a really hopeful picture for the Americans and the rest of his teammates.

“I’m going to try my very hardest and really give it a really good push,” said a determined Schauffele as he alluded to making it into the Olympics team before it was confirmed. Well, he did manage to make his dreams come true by staying on top of the ranking and climbing to the No. 2 spot ahead of the final date set aside for the same. He sure deserves to take a bow!
