There are hundreds of exceptionally talented golfers playing on the PGA Tour. Yet, the fans of the sport will always search for one name on the field list of a tournament; Tiger Woods. That is the influence of the 15-time major winning champion.

The 2022 Memorial Tournament will begin on June 2nd, Thursday of this week, at the Muirfield Village Golf Club. According to the field list released, Woods is not part of it, meaning he will not be participating in the tournament this week.

Woods made a comeback at the 2022 Masters after surviving a car accident in 2021. He had then finished playing all four rounds at the Augusta National. After the event, he revealed his intention to play only the major events as he is not fit enough to play the entire season.

Moreover, his recent withdrawal from the PGA Championship suggests that he is not in perfect shape to compete this week. Woods withdrew from the 2022 PGA Championship after playing three rounds. He carded a 9-over 79 in the last round he played, which is the highest he has ever scored in an event.

Notably, Woods has never withdrawn from a major event since he turned professional in 1996. Furthermore, he also seemed to struggle with his injuries and pain throughout the tournament.

Tiger Woods – History at the Memorial Tournament

Turned professional in 1996, Tiger Woods has won 82 championship titles on the PGA Tour, including 15 majors. His 82 titles also include 5 Memorial Tournament titles!

He won the event first in 1999 with an overall score of 273 and a 2-shot lead from the runner-up Vijay Singh. Like always, Woods even created a record at the event. He became the first and only person to defend his title not only once, but twice in 2000 and 2001.

Notably, the founder and host of the event, the veteran golfer Jack Nicklaus, has only won twice at the tournament. Nicklaus started the tournament in 1976 at the Muirfield Village Golf Club. Moreover, Roger Maltbie is the first ever to win the title.

After three consecutive victories, it took Woods eight more years to reclaim his throne. He had won the event with an overall score of 276. He won it later once again in 2012, with 279 as his overall score.
