Can Scottie Scheffler bounce back at the 3M Open after his Royal Troon letdown?

Many expected Scottie Scheffler to claim yet another win on the men’s circuit at Royal Troon. Unfortunately, he fell short of the finish he hoped to clinch and failed to clinch the title of champ at the Open Championship. But not to worry, for there are still chances for the golfer to redeem himself ahead of the playoffs. Enter the 3M Open.

The athlete is currently placed at No. 1 on the season-long FedEx Cup standings with a whopping 5992.750 points. Case in point: will the current No. 1 golfer tee it up at the upcoming event in TPC Twin Cities when his entry into the playoffs is undoubtedly in the cards?

The 2024 Masters champ will not be teeing it up at the 2024 3M Open, as per the official field released by the PGA Tour. Moreover, he had even revealed the same in an interview post-win at the 2024 Travelers Championship; “I’m playing The Open, the Olympics, and then the last three playoff events.”

The athlete also added how he will follow it up with the Presidents Cup while expressing hope of making the team. ” I think I should be on the Presidents Cup team and then I’ll take a break,” said the 28-year-old. The golfer, unsurprisingly, tops the standings for the same as well, with a whopping figure of 13,184.

Scheffler is also part of the team representing his country, the United States of America, for the upcoming Paris Olympics alongside Xander Schauffele, Wyndham Clark, and Collin Morikawa. The event, which starts on July 26, will see the golf event kick-off on August 1, the week after the 3M Open. He will surely look to gear up for the same, as mentioned earlier in the Travelers Championship interview after his win.

“Playing for your country is always extremely exciting and it will be pretty surreal doing it on the Olympic stage,” said an ecstatic Scheffler after learning of his qualification to the prestigious event in Paris. “I’m very grateful. That’s something I’ve been looking forward to (for) a long time. I was hoping to be part of that team, and it will be very special going over and competing with the other three guys. Hopefully, we’ll be able to bring home some medals for the USA.”

He wasn’t just looking forward to playing the game after reaching Paris but was also looking to enjoy himself properly: “I’m just excited to go there and experience the Olympics, see some other sports, go to the village, see other athletes and just be part of it all. It should be a fun, special week.” Anyhow, the golfer will sure need a break to pick himself up after a T7 finish at the Open Championship, and not playing the 3M Open will give him just that.
