The crowd cheered for the golfer as he clinched his first PGA Tour victory at the Hamilton Golf and Country Club. Robert MacIntyre emerged triumphant at the 2024 RBC Canadian Open by besting a talented field of golfers with his exceptional gameplay resulting in a 16-under 264. But he wasn’t able to do it alone. Yes, the professional claimed his first title and raked in $1,692,000 with the help of the people around him, especially his father Dougie MacIntyre who carried the bags for the athlete, successfully so, one must say.

MacIntyre’s victory, meanwhile, makes him eligible for the field at the upcoming signature event on the Jay Monahan-led circuit as well as the third major of the 2024 PGA Tour calendar. One can’t help but wonder if he would once again turn to his father to help him out on the bags at the 2024 Memorial Tournament and the U.S. Open that will kick off in the upcoming weeks of June.

No. Dad’s on the flight home on Monday,” disclosed the Scottish pro when asked about whether his father would be caddying for him for the next big events. Robert MacIntyre then went ahead to add how he would also follow his father’s suit and celebrate the win with Shannon Hartley, his loving partner; “Me and my girlfriend might go home and have a hell of a party. The whole support I’ve had from Scotland, mainly my family, I honestly can’t believe this.”

MacIntyre had called his father up at the last minute to carry the bags for him. He did so after parting ways with his previous caddies while getting turned down by others who were disinterested in doing the job for a week. He had been partnered up with Mike Burrow after the 2023 Ryder Cup before which he had Greg Milne as the looper for a month. He, however, stuck with Burrow throughout the start of the current season till the time between the Masters and the PGA Championship.

The Scottish golfer then changed his bagman and offered the job to Scott Carmichael who carried his bags for about five weeks. Unfortunately for the athlete, a wedding commitment during the second major at Valhalla forced Robert MacIntyre to turn back to Burrow. The duo was a bit successful on the course seeing as how they managed to finish T8 with a score of 13-under par at the PGA Championship. Soon after the event, he parted ways with everyone while deciding on a full reset in his on-course partnership leading him to call up his father.

Although Dougie MacIntyre was an exceptional help on the greens, he was but a temporary fix to a problem, albeit a hugely successful one. Even so, the 27-year-old couldn’t help but dish out praises for his father who is a grass-cutter at a golf course himself.

“I’m speechless, to be honest,” expressed the 2024 RBC Canadian Open champ, “It’s just everything for me and my family, my girlfriend, my team. I can’t believe I’ve done it with him on the bag.” Moreover, the pro was extremely proud of achieving the feat with the person who taught him golf when he was little; “It’s the guy that taught me the game of golf,” said the 1-time PGA Tour champ before adding, “I just can’t believe I’ve done it with him on the bag.”

His father was also of the same opinion. Robert MacIntyre’s Dad confessed with nothing short of exhilaration, “I’m a grass-cutter. Not a caddie. Honestly, it’s unbelievable. Last Saturday I thought, ‘Can I leave my job?’ 8 o’clock the next morning I’m on a flight here. Wow.” The looper-cum-parent was visibly humble despite earning every right to hold his head high on the greens. Especially so after helping his son rake in the win all the while helping him hit 72% of the greens and hit par every time he missed in the first 36 holes.
