Can Wyndham Clark silence his haters and prove he's a top contender in the PGA Tour?

The BMW Championship is back at Castle Pines Rock Club. And with it, comes Wyndham Clark! The Colorado native is currently at No. 6 on the FedEx Rankings and will hope to redeem himself in front of his hometown at the event. However, just as the golfer readies himself, his greatest support on the greens, his caddie, John Ellis, seems to not be on the same page as the athlete.

The American’s bagman was spotted in an interview ahead of the upcoming event in Colorado, where he revealed the same. During the session, Ellis was asked fan-submitted questions on different topics, including how the golfer-looper duo handles a disagreement and whether Clark gets on the latter’s nerves.

“I usually gotta take the blame,” said the 30-year-old’s caddie as he disclosed how they resolve issues. But he didn’t stop there, for that wasn’t the only way the disagreements were settled. John Ellis also added, “We’ll go over it and be like, ‘This is what I was thinking. It’s on me.’”

As for Wyndham Clark getting on his caddie’s nerves, the reply was nothing but amusing. “Well, I spend as much time with him as I do my wife,” said the athlete’s bagman jokingly before adding a confident “Yes” as the answer. The ex-pro and now-looper hilariously brought in his wife Heather, the mother of his 5 children, to throw a jab at the golfer.

Although the responses were witty remarks aimed at the 2023 U.S. Open champ, their relationship is anything but rocky. “I feel like John is meant to be my caddie,” said Clark once in an interview with USA Today, “But it’s so much more than just a business relationship… Our relationship has been so close and John has been kind of my rock out here.” Well, the 1-time major champ is going to need his ‘rock’ and support if he is to redeem himself in front of his hometown.

Wyndham Clark’s path to redemption at the BMW Championship

Many had taken to bash the American athlete during the 2024 Paris Olympics, owing to him being chosen instead of Bryson DeChambeau. Some had even pointed out, “I don’t dislike Wyndham Clark in any way I just think Bryson was more deserving of the opportunity.” Despite the setback, he managed to finish T14 with figures of 11-under 273 over the four days of play at Le Golf National.

In the FedEx St. Jude Championship that followed, the athlete placed himself at T7, tied with Robert MacIntyre, while registering a figure of 12-under over the four rounds. He did so by carding figures of 68, 69, 67, 64 while dishing out 16 birdies. Even though Wyndham Clark failed to clinch the win and silence his haters in Memphis, it’s not as if he would stop hoping for the same at the BMW Championship. What’s more, achieving the same in his hometown makes it all the more sweeter. His fans would surely be looking forward to it!
