Scottie Scheffler's caddie rakes in big bucks—Do caddies deserve more recognition for their role?

A total of 13 career wins on the PGA Tour, with 7 of them coming in 2024. Yes, we are talking about Scottie Scheffler and his incredible stats for the season. As he racked up such impressive numbers, the golfer also managed to earn substantial prize money through his finishes. With Scheffler earning big, his closest support on the greens, caddie Ted Scott, also received a cut of the earnings. The question naturally arises: how much has his looper earned from being the athlete’s bagman?

As per the official payout rates, a looper typically receives a 10% cut of the prize money for a win, 7% for a top-10 finish, and 5% for placing outside the top 10. With his exceptional caddie skills, Scott has reportedly earned more than $5 million on the greens as Scheffler’s caddie this year. This, in turn, has helped him earn more money than many PGA Tour pros in 2024, including the likes of Viktor Hovland, Tommy Fleetwood, and more.

Scottie Scheffler, meanwhile, boasts total career earnings of a staggering $71,793,586 as of the 2024 TOUR Championship, making him 3rd on the PGA Tour’s Career Money Leaders list. The golfer increased his earnings with a win at the TOUR Championship. Out of his total earnings, he took in a sum of $54,228,357 from the current season alone.

Scheffler, thus, has secured a total of seven wins this season, nine top-10 finishes excluding his victories, and 3 tournaments where he placed outside the top 10. Combining the dollar amounts earned through those finishes ($54,228,357) with the caddie payout rates, we get Ted Scott’s earnings for the 2024 PGA Tour season: a whopping $5,238,650. But mind you, this does not include the earnings he might have received from the Olympic finish and the Comcast Business Tour Top 10 winnings.

If Scott receives 10% of the payout that the United States awarded Scottie Scheffler for the gold medal ($38,000), then the looper will earn a sum of $3,800 from that. That’s not all—taking 10% of the Comcast Business Tour Top 10 winnings of $8 million, Scott will again receive a figure of $800,000, bringing his total to $6,042,450—more than what he earned over the past couple of seasons combined.
