It seems it was the PGA of America’s turn to face another setback this time around. The ongoing PGA Championship had already seen a rather unsettling start to the second day of play when an unfortunate accident occurred, followed by Scottie Scheffler’s arrest. Now, it appears it’s the unfavorable weather conditions that have played the villain, much like the events on the Jay Monahan-led circuit.

The second round of the ongoing major championship that is taking place at the Valhalla Golf Course was officially suspended at 8:41 P.M. ET, citing reasons of darkness. The announcement was made on the official X handle of the PGA Championship, along with a video of the event official signaling the same while sitting on a cart.

The suspension of the round left many professionals unable to finish their second round by the time the signal was given. A total of 18 golfers, including the likes of Dean Burmester, Taylor Moore, Jeremy Wells, Erik Van Rooyen, Ben Polland, and Zac Blair, among others, have yet to complete their day’s play, with all of them having three or fewer holes remaining.

Another announcement was made soon after on their official X handle, divulging how the rest of the second round will resume on May 18, Saturday from 07:15 AM onwards. The tweet mentions how “Evacuation vans will leave from the main drive for players on holes #15 through #17 at 7:00 AM. All players must be in position and ready to play at 7:15 AM.” The first tee-off for the next round, meanwhile, will begin at 9:00 A.M. ET and 03:00 P.M. with the professionals being grouped in teams of two at the 1 tee.

The start of the second round on Friday was, unfortunately, delayed by around 80 minutes due to the ill-fated accident that took the life of John Mills. The victim was reportedly on his way to work when the incident took place. This was soon followed by the authorities detaining the 2024 Masters Champ due to some other misunderstanding involving a police officer, leading to the golfer being charged with various offenses.

The current No. 1 in the OWGR, as a result of the detainment, now faces a lot of charges, including “Second-degree assault of a police officer (Felony), Third-degree criminal mischief (Misdemeanor), Reckless driving (Violation), and Disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic (Misdemeanor).” But he soon made a return to the course and hit a breathtaking 5-under 66 to place himself at T4, eight spots above where he was placed yesterday.

This helped him score an overall figure of 9-under par after two days of play, allowing him to tie with the likes of Thomas Detry, Mark Hubbard, and Bryson DeChambeau. Well, it seems Scheffler made sure to deliver on the words that he said after being released; I’m hopeful to put this to the side and play golf today, and play good golf he did!
