OWGR points. It seems to be so far out of reach for many. The word ‘many’ refers to none other than the professionals on LIV Golf. The ranking body had earlier this year resolved to deny the golfers from the Saudi-backed league their points, citing various reasons. However, the opposite turned out to be the case for The Sentry, a limited-field event.
Seems unfair? Well, that’s exactly what a post that was uploaded on the X platform pointed out as well. Moreover, the tweet went ahead to comment on the amount of points received by the winner at the upcoming event, all the while taking a brutal jab at Jay Monahan!

The post on X, uploaded by LIV Golf Insider, mentioned how the winner of the Sentry, which is a “No Cut, Limited field, Invite only” event, would receive “37 OWGR Points.” However, the news handle did so to highlight the PIF-funded league not getting any of the same from the world ranking body.
Adding on, the tweet also pointed out how certain players on the alternate tour managed to win “FIVE global tournaments,” all the while “netting” a total of 64.65655 points. Was that the end? No, as the handle went ahead to take a brutal jab at the PGA Tour commissioner, accusing how his “regime single handily divided golf!”
Well, undeniably, many could find it unfair that a winner of an event on the men’s circuit like the Sentry can receive more than half of what Louis Oosthuizen, Dean Burmester, and Joaquin Niemann were able to win in November and December. The trio was able to emerge victorious at a total of five events: Oosthuizen at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open and the Alfred Dunhill Championship; Burmester at the Joburg Open and the Investec South African Open Championship; and Niemann at the ISPS Handa Australian Open.
This week’s winner at @TheSentry (No Cut, Limited field, Invite only) will be rewarded 37 OWGR Points.
In the last month, #LIVGolf players have won FIVE global tournaments netting 64 Points combined.
Jay Monahan’s regime single handily divided golf. Nobody can deny that!

The tweet did go ahead and blow up on the internet, as many enthusiasts came forward to comment on it. Moreover, several of the fans were brutal in their attack on Jay Monahan!
Netizens attack Monahan for dividing golf
There were a lot of responses from the followers, ranging from those who took a jab at the official to some who accused the golfing body of ruining the sport. Nevertheless, it seems that Monahan is not off to a great start in 2024.
The denial of points to the LIV golfers by the OWGR did lead to many of the league’s supporters turning to its alternatives, including TUGR, SI World Golf Rankings, and Data Golf Rankings. Well, a follower pointed out the same while mentioning how the PGA Tour and the world ranking body will become irrelevant soon.
We all know the @PGATOUR and the @OWGRltd are a irrelevant and on the out.
The PGA Tour will be out of business soon and @TUGRgolf is going to supercede the OWGR.

The Hero World Challenge, which was an unofficial event on the men’s circuit, was awarded a lot of ranking points too, possibly owing to Tiger Woods’s comeback. Such a fact, coupled with the number set to be given to the winner of the upcoming tournament, naturally causes displeasure among many.
Monopoly!

However, not all comments were against the official. Some followers decided to back Monahan while demanding that people show him more respect. Meanwhile, they also tried to highlight the responsibility of a CEO, all the while trying to provide a fair judgment of the 53-year-old and his actions.
Jay M. deserves some respect. Yes he could have folded LIV into the PGAT system. Yes he could have listened to Phil, taken calls from Norman and work with PIF who controls $800B. But every CEO knows one thing: don't talk to people. Show Jay some respect.

However, the above comment did not sit well with some followers, as one of them took to mention how respect is not given out for free. But, while doing so, the fan decided to take a jab at the one who shared the above response by bringing in Chesson Hadley, a golfer who demanded a reward for staying loyal to the PGA Tour.
Respect is earned and Monahan has never earned it.
Is this Chesson Hadley?

Many were extreme in their reactions as they took to commenting on the tweet. While some put forward a lukewarm response, some netizens decided to dub Monahan as nothing short of an ignorant person!

Some netizens also expressed their dissatisfaction with both circuits as they took to X. Moreover, they pointed out how the chaos resulting from the fight between the two bodies, followed by the $3 billion merger, ruined the sport of golf.
ALL of you (LIV and PGAT) have ruined pro golf. Hope you enjoy rebuilding it for a decade after ruining it for the majority of the rest of us.
