The $3 billion merger between LIV Golf and PGA Tour made the golf world topsy-turvy. And now Jay Monahan, who initiated the merger on behalf of the PGA Tour, appears to have lost the respect of his squad since the players were not consulted before its signing. After staying in the dark for so long, the members have finally lost their patience and have accused Jay Monahan of betraying them.

Now the former No.1 has also joined in bashing Monahan and he severely criticized the PGA Tour commissioner for his treacherous move. Eventually, the extremity of his disgust reached such levels that he invoked another legendary PGA Tour veteran Tiger Woods to get back at Jay Monahan and the Tour.

The four-time major winner, Ernie Els had a fierce rivalry with fifteen-time major winner Tiger Woods. Ernie always considered Woods as his major competitor. After the merger, Ernie has been trashing Monahan relentlessly. Not too long ago, he said, “If this happened in my day, in my prime, there’s no way he’s around. No way. And the board has to change. You do s–t like this. I’m sorry, it’s not right”.

And now, Els has taken up Woods in his discussion to further display his censure toward Monahan and his decision. He said, “I spent almost 30 years on Tour, playing against Tiger… people don’t mention me but I was there, he needed somebody to beat. There’s a lot of guys who did a lot for this Tour; they helped the Tour and helped build the game. Are you kidding me? And then this bullshit?”.  This reflects his deep anguish. So much so that he invokes the legendary Tiger Woods to avenge himself on the PGA Tour and Jay Monahan.

Joint disapproval of PGA Tour members of Jay Monahan’s action

The last few weeks have changed Jay Monahan’s reputation on the tour. And he has no one to blame but himself, it appears. Els is not the only one criticizing him. Several tour members like Jordan Spieth, Scottie Scheffler, Hunter Mahan, and many others have also shown their disapproval. Though the PGA Tour commissioner has not addressed these verbal assaults, one would admit things are going a bit downhill for him.
