From fatherhood to the PGA Tour—Is Scottie Scheffler the most relatable golfer today?

Truly a long year for Scottie Scheffler! And he agrees 100%, as the golfer expressed the same sentiment following his TOUR Championship win, but with a slight twist: “It’s been a long… very fun year.” Even so, when it comes to putting it into words, the current world No. 1 struggles, as he was asked about his scintillating season and couldn’t, for the life of him, articulate it.

Scheffler was asked about his experience as a human, a golfer, and a family man in 2024 during a press conference following the FedEx Cup finale. “If you can describe it in words,” replied the pro humorously, “More power to you, because I don’t think I can.” The 28-year-old then confessed to feeling emotionally drained at the moment before sharing his plans for the immediate future.

“I’m looking forward to going home and getting rest for a week or so,” continued Scheffler, pointing out the upcoming Presidents Cup, which will tee off on September 24. The golfer mentioned that he needs to start preparing for it and disclosed the reason behind his enthusiasm: “Because that’s a tournament that I really want us to go out there and win.”

Coming back to recounting the year’s happenings, the athlete expressed how he couldn’t put it into words. “I really don’t know how to put it into words,” said the 2024 Masters Champ while dubbing it as “fun,” except for his fiasco with the cops at the PGA Championship, “You had the one weird spot there at Valhalla, which — I just don’t really know what to say about it, but everything else has been pretty special.”

The 13-time PGA Tour champ was arrested on the second day of the major at Valhalla for attempting to cross near the scene of a deadly crash. Consequently, Scheffler was charged with felony second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, and disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic. Although the charges were dropped later on, the incident remains a “weird” memory for the golfer whose year was otherwise remarkable, especially with the birth of his baby and the scintillating wins.

The scintillating year that Scottie Scheffler can’t put into words

Scottie Scheffler’s 2024 winning streak began at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. It was soon followed by victories at THE PLAYERS, the Masters, RBC Heritage, The Memorial Tournament, the Travelers Championship, the TOUR Championship, and the Olympics. But the most important moment came on May 8, about 10 days before his unexpected arrest, when his wife, Meredith Scheffler, gave birth to their son, Bennett.

That’s not all. The wins he racked up this year also earned him a substantial amount of money. He managed to increase his career earnings to a whopping $71,793,586 (T3 on the Career Earnings List) while garnering $54,228,357 from the season alone. Coupled with the victories, the baby’s birth, and the Olympic gold, 2024 truly seems to have been Scottie Scheffler’s year.
