The latest PGA Tour event at TPC Southwind was a journey of rollercoasters for the players and their audience. While Lucas Glover grabbed his sixth title on Tour, names like Rory McIlroy continued to stand in the top rankings. Amidst all its normal offerings, a topic of interest at the tournament remained the traditions of the game of golf.
The customary domains of interest soon extended to the official rulings of the sport along with its continued etiquettes. Though it might have become a repeated discussion for some, Paige Spiranac had a lot of old and new things to add from her end. Like any other debate, the golf diva offered an unwavering stance to her viewers, entailing the recent controversy surrounding the recently concluded leg of the FedEx Cup. And more times than not, the fans seemed to be in consonance with the same.

Indeed, the weather plays a vital role in golf, just like any other outdoor sport. While golfers usually hope for these extraneous conditions to be in their favor, the playing conditions throw a curve ball now and then. One such occurrence recently took place at the 2023 FedEx St. Jude Championship, when the scorching heat in Tennessee posed a significant challenge than the course itself.
Though golfers tried their best to battle these baking conditions, it was evidently not a walk in the park. Many professionals and athletes acknowledged these tough circumstances. Consequently, social media star Paige Spiranac also came forward with a robust solution regarding the same.
According to the former professional, the best formula to adhere to such situations is to have a choice of shifting to wearing shorts rather than the “traditional golf pants“. Voicing her unwavering stance, she said, “The men on the PGA Tour should absolutely be able to wear shorts, and the rules needs to change right now.”
Mentioning the winner of the tournament, the 30-year-old sarcastically commented that it was not only the FedEx playoff title that Lucas Glover won, but he also triumphed in the worst documented case of “swamp a**.” Justifying her perspective further, the golf beauty mentioned how players on the Tour were even sticking their hands in the ice coolers to maintain body temperature.

Undoubtedly, Spiranac has time and again vouched for these choices for the golfers. And now she is blazing in full force to stamp the importance of the same.
For Spiranac, these opinions were vexatious. Per the model, people were expressing these views while sitting comfortably under AC, and on the other hand, the pros were warring with extreme conditions.
Interestingly, most of her followers also agreed with the opinion of the former golfer. According to the poll she had posted with the same video on her Instagram account, almost 90% of her audience voted ‘yes’ when asked if golfers should be allowed to wear shorts.

Like any other take of Paige Spiranac, her hours-old shared opinion seemed to gain enormous attention from the audience. Most fans seemed to align with her belief of shorts being the new norm, commenting:
For it. Plus – Your science has proven that less clothes = lower scores. So. It’s proven to help.

Glover looked like he was on the verge of collapse. He had salt caked on his face and neck. I have no problems with shorts as an option.

This rule change should’ve happened ages ago

Others seemed rather inclined toward the age-old traditions of the sport and wrote in its favor:
No…absolutely not! Traditions of the game!!
— Dr. Dirty (@1DIrtySanchez) August 14, 2023
no, keep rules and traditions!
— THOMAS TAMOWSKI (@spintwin1) August 14, 2023
Stick to tradition

One spectator even questioned why such a rule even had to exist in the first place, commenting:
Yeah. Why is the rule there in the first place?

Fans, drawing inspiration from personal experience or other tournaments, replied:
Let them wear shorts like Liv does.

Shorts for sure. I play in shorts. Does it help my game? Uhh no. But on a hot humid day it is far more comfortable.
