The PGA Tour concluded an action-packed weekend at Ponte Vedra Beach. It is now headed to the Copperhead Course for the Valspar Championship from March 21st to 24th. The pros will be competing for a whopping prize purse of $8.4 million, but not all pros!
The course is popular for being one of the hardest tracks encountered all season. But, not for the GOAT, Tiger Woods! How? Well, this fact has been backed up in a recent throwback video posted on the PGA Tour’s official X account. In 2018, Woods faced some trouble when his ball found a place near a tree, so close that when he would have hit it, he could have hit his arms on the tree.
Being the ace golfer that he is, he attempted an “incredible par save” that gained him applause from all the spectators present there. As it turns out, the tree was not the trouble for him, and it was worth hitting his arms on the tree! The 15x major champion finished at T2 in the 2018 Valspar Championship. Interestingly, this is the sole appearance that he has made at the event in his career.

By seeing Woods’s heroic skills on the greens, fans exploded on Twitter to share their opinion regarding this great shot! One fan expressed his appreciation for the way Woods played and commented “Love seeing him play well. The game needs a Tiger.” They expressed their emotion as to how much they miss seeing him on the greens with the same passion displayed in the video. The golfer has been out of most of the competitive events. He did tee up the Genesis but ended up withdrawing because of Influenza.
On the other hand, one other fan has shown his concern and wrote, “Did he f*ck up his wrist on that. Looked painful.” He might have been skeptical if the GOAT might have hurt his wrist, as he looked in pain after he hit the ball and his iron fell off his hands. Considering, however, that he didn’t withdraw and went on to finish T2, it certainly seems like it looked worse than it was.
One unimpressed fan commented, “Nothing compared to Phil’s shot from the pine straw at Augusta.” They compared Wood’s shot with Phil Mickelson’s during the 2010 Augusta showdown, where Lefty had hit the most iconic shot on the par 5 13th. He had to play from the Pine Straw thread his shot through several trees and clear the creek that guards the front of the green.
Another golf enthusiast simply praised the veteran golfer and called the shot a “Great & skillful golf swing.” The shot might have reminded the fan of all the great memories that Woods has given to all the golf fans out there, and how he still trying his best to be on the competitive greens!
Woods has been facing recurring back issues that started back in 2010. One golf fan commented in the context of the golfer’s recurring back issues and said “No wonder his back is all messed up….” The fan iterated that Wood’s back problems might have originated from playing shots like the ones in the video. Although his leg has been the center of all the troubles lately, his back has also not been very good. The golfer shared in the Hero World Challenge press conference that pressure had further shifted to his lower back.
Big names such as Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, and others will not be teeing up at the aforementioned event. Even TW who ‘realistically’ promised to play one event every month, is out of the field for the weekend.

No March events for Tiger Woods
Woods hinted at his painful health condition during the 2024 Genesis Invitational and admitted that he had not been doing completely well. Elaborating his concern, “It had been spasming over the last three holes, and it just locked up on me and didn’t move, didn’t rotate,” said Woods. After he withdrew from the Riviera, he even failed to attend the Arnold Palmer Invitational and then THE PLAYERS Championship, which were both highly anticipated events for his return on the greens before the Masters.
