While Team USA grabbed a staggering win at the Walker Cup, it was a great comeback of sorts. Post Saturday, the US team was trailing behind by 3 points.

Yet, the American side soon gained much-needed momentum. But now it has been claimed that the force behind their comeback on Sunday was none other than golf legend Tiger Woods. The fifteen-time major champion is claimed to have reached out to his native team with some words of encouragement.

The words of advice and motivation seemed sure to have played their part in the game, as the United States gained a dominating lead and victory over their opposition. They went out and scored a 14.5-11.5 win, astonishing all the spectators around. The Americans grabbed the title of the Amateur team tournament for the fourth consecutive time, and that must have been an accomplishment to cherish!

The dominance displayed on the last day of the tournament had a touch of experience written all over it. Team USA took no time to overturn a lead over GB&I on Sunday, handling the challenging conditions better than their competitors, despite the latter team’s home advantage. While these happenings unfolded on the Scottish greens, everyone was reminded of the subtle honor paid to the 15-time major winner earlier in the tournament.

The crafty tribute to Tiger Woods at the 2023 Walker Cup

Before the details of the subtle commemoration can be drawn, it is salient to note that the legendary Tiger Woods participated in the lone Walker Cup in 1995 at Royal Porthcawl. While his performance in Wales that year did not speak of his caliber, he created a name for himself through his skills and expertise.

Thus, it wouldn’t be far-fetched to say that many parts of the game today are directly or indirectly associated with the golf legend. One such association is with regard to his iconic dressing style which during the 2023 Walker Cup was seen imitated by none other than Gordon Sargent.

While it reminded the spectators of Woods’ choice of clothes over the years, even his typical white Nike shoes were reminiscent of the golfer’s preferred gear.
