From ridicule to respect: Has Jason Day set a new trend with his Masters vest?

Ever heard of “Parachute pants?” You might have if you didn’t miss the Augusta National major this year. Or that is at least what the fans were talking about when Jason Day wore his baggy pants on day 1. Then came the iconic ‘Malbon Golf’ vest. Iconic in the sense that it caught the eyes of the fans as well as the officials, the latter of whom asked him to remove it. And now, months after causing a ruckus on the greens, it has made its way into an auction!

Yes, you read that right! The vest made by Malbon Golf, and worn & removed by the golfer, was put up for an auction recently and sold for a whopping $18,000. That’s not all. As per Golf Digest’s Instagram post, the PGA Tour Pro “also matched the bid with 18k of his own.” And all of the proceeds will make their way into the athlete’s charity, the Brighter Days Foundation.

Back at the Masters, he had been left confused when asked about the controversy that came about as a result of his vest. “I wasn’t trying to do anything,” confessed Day. “They just scripted me in it, and I was wearing it.” Seems funny enough, right? Well, regardless of the whole mood back then, it sure has emerged successfully in helping out the kids in need through the auction. And the fans were naturally sent into a frenzy owing to the same.

Jason Day’s iconic Masters’ vest sends the internet into a fervor… again!

He wasn’t too concerned with the happenings during the Masters. For the golfer had, without hesitation, removed his vest when asked to do so by the officials. “Respectfully, you do that because it’s all about the tournament here,” added the pro, “And I understand that. I respect the tournament. That’s what we’re here to do: try and play and win the green jacket.” Jason Day sure did sport a nice attitude back then. Months later, and it hasn’t changed, for a fan responded to his recent actions, That’s so awesome.

Have an interesting take?

Some of the followers only took to comment on the vest itself. One person commented, “This Malbon gear is horrendous,” while another reacted, “He should never taken it off.” Well, this is not the first time the followers have taken to react to the golfer and his attire on the greens. Ever since he joined hands with the company in January, the pro has endured a lot of flak from the fans regarding his clothing. Some had even dubbed him a “clown” for wearing the kind of attire he does. But now, a few have appeared to support him, all thanks to his recent actions. Seems like a good comeback story, doesn’t it?
