A T2 at the 2024 Dubai Invitational followed by a thrilling win at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic soon after. No one can refute Rory McIlroy being the most successful and top-ranked golfer on the European circuit, especially this season. However, this time around, it is not the Northern Irishman but the Englishman Tommy Fleetwood who has managed to take the cake!

An announcement was made hours ago by DP World Group, declaring the 33-year-old as the circuit’s Global Ambassador. Such a decision was made despite the 4-time major champ boasting much more success in the league as well as in the Career Money List.

McIlroy currently tops the board when it comes to the prize money earned throughout his career at $61,060,567.74 (€56,462,801.79). He was able to achieve the same through his excellent finishes, including 17 wins on the circuit from 244 tournaments. Nevertheless, it was Fleetwood, the golfer at No. 4 in the career money list at $33,135,568.48 (€30,640,511.62), who has become the league’s Global Ambassador.

The English Pro was able to rake in the same through his talented gameplay as well over the years. He has won a total of 7 tournaments in the European circuit out of 277 starts and is currently ranked No. 5 with 1232,93 Race to Dubai points. The 35-year-old Rory McIlroy, meanwhile, holds the No. 1 spot with a figure of 1851.

The 7-time DPWT champ, on the other hand, was visibly happy to partner up with the DP World. He said, It’s an honor to grow my relationship with DP World as their Global Ambassador,” before pointing out how the work they did together has helped spread the game, “I’m excited for what lies ahead. DP World is a forward-thinking, innovative company that continues to invest in golf’s development, and anyone who knows me knows how close growing the game is to my heart.”

“We are thrilled that Tommy is now part of the DP World family as our new Global Ambassador,” exclaimed an ecstatic Daniel Van Otterdijk, DP World’s Group CCO. He also added how partnering with the Englishman was obvious owing to his talent; “Appointing him was a natural next step, strengthening our already very strong partnership.” The two had, back in 2022, opened the athlete’s first-ever academy, The DP World Golf Performance Centre at Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai

That’s not all. The CCO was all-praise for Fleetwood as he said, “The caliber of talent that Tommy represents aligns perfectly with our goal to further build our brand in the realm of sport, as he appeals to such a huge audience.” He also expressed his hope of the pro dishing out his best and consequently making a change in the sport through his talent. Interestingly, it seems Fleetwood has managed to outshine Rory McIlroy not just at the 2024 Dubai Invitational but through the recent partnership as well.
