Timing is crucial when it comes to the Genesis Scottish Open. Scheduled skillfully a week before the Open Championship, this event is now all set to move towards Friday. With a surprised-laced first round on Thursday, the second round has all eyes affixed.
After all, having missed the cut in three of his last five performances, Maximilian Kieffer has made a resounding comeback on Day 1 at the Renaissance Club. But that’s not all that catches our eye. The field of this co-sanctioned event is filled with promising names and groupings, many of which elicit attention. Surely, the fight for the $9 million prize purse will not be won so easily.
Players like Justin Thomas and Sungjae Im became some of the most promising names on Thursday after their leaderboard-topping performances. Then there’s the defending champion, Rory McIlroy, who has his mind set on amending the slip-up by one stroke at the US Open. The 2022 past champion, Xander Schauffele, is also a player we’d have our eyes on on Friday.
