There’s a story behind everything, be it the 15 stripes on the ‘Sun Day Red’ logo or the split Tiger Woods had with his long-time partner Nike. Interestingly, when he came on stage a while back sporting his new brand logo, little did the community know that there would also be an iconic tale involving zodiac signs resting behind why he wears ‘Red’ on Sundays!

A tweet was shared by the brand on their X handle (formerly known as Twitter), showcasing a video of Woods explaining the rationale behind his choice of the color on the final days of play. Well, as we listen to his story, one can’t help but agree with what the label wrote in the caption for the post, it truly was “a rebellious spirit” that led to what would become the legend’s unique style on the greens.

The 48-year-old had, during the brand drop, divulged his mother, Kutilda Woods, as the reason why he started wearing red. The athlete was told by his mom that “a Capricorn’s power color is Red.” The video showcases the pro recounting the words as well, including how he wore red as a junior and won one time, leading to her saying all mothers do when they are proven right, “Yes, see? That’s your color.”

However, what pushed him to continue sporting the shade? Fascinatingly, as all children do, Mr. T recalls in the video how he, as a rebellious kid, also went ahead and wanted to prove his mom wrong, “wore blue the next time I(sic) had a chance to win.” The result? “I did not win,” admitted the 15-time major champ, after which he “went back to red and won.” Truly “a rebellious spirit that led to an iconic choice,” as per the caption of the post.

That’s not all. A young Woods then went ahead to join Stanford and become a part of the Cardinal’s Golf Roster. Coincidentally or not, the color of the university was also a similar shade, leading him to believe in the power of Red more and more. It’s weird. I got to University, that is red. Stanford is red, recounted the golfer.

However, as mentioned earlier, that’s not the only story behind the professional and his ‘Sun Day Red’ brand. What else, then? Well, the logo itself has a much deeper story behind its origin.

The iconic logo of the legend’s brand sports a total of 15 stripes, each stripe representing each major win he raked in throughout his 27-year professional golfing career. But what would happen if he were to win a 16th major? Well, not to worry, as he has already revealed how the logo would add a stripe and change it if such a situation were to arise. Although such a declaration came at a time when the golfer was gearing up to make his 2024 PGA Tour debut, which later ended in a withdrawal due to an illness, it does nevertheless bring some hope into the hearts of his fans.
