Since the beginning, golf has been a sport that has always taken pride in its traditions. One of the traditions upheld in the golf fraternity is the kind of clothes that golfers wear on the course while they are competing. Members of the golf fraternity, such as Paige Spiranac, have been called out for allegedly not abiding by the dress code, and wearing revealing clothes.

However, all the backlash that the star golf influencer has received in the past, hasn’t stopped her from presenting her anti-traditional ideas for the sport. Just recently as well, Spiranac took to her social media and shared a not-so-traditional fashion move that should be in the books for PGA Tour pros.

The top 70 golfers in the FedEx Cup standings are competing in the FedEx St. Jude Championship, worth $20 million, and the competition is getting tough. Other than the competition, the playing conditions in Memphis are also getting extremely tough. Why? Because the heat this time is off the charts.

The official PGA Tour page shared a video on Instagram reiterating that “Memphis heat is no joke,” wherein Jordan Spieth can be seen wiping his face with a cold, dripping towel to beat the heat. Spieth looks tired in the video, and he can be seen dressed in traditional golf clothes. A tucked-in polo T-shirt with trousers.

The former golf pro has always done things a certain way, and she has been a vocal advocate for trying things differently. So, Spiranac’s offering unconventional and non-traditional advice for the golfers competing on the course is not new. Golf Mommy reshared the PGA Tour’s post on her Instagram story and asked the officials to allow the golfers to “wear shorts.”

While it may seem like an obvious answer, whether or not golfers will be allowed to wear shorts while competing is still a far-fetched decision. However, the question that arises with Spiranac’s suggestion is why PGA Tour pros are not allowed to wear shorts on the course while competing, and why is golfing etiquette of utmost importance?

Spiranac starts a golf shorts revolution?

In 2019, the PGA Tour’s Player Appearance Guidelines allowed golfers to wear shorts on the greens but not in the four rounds of the competition, but only during the practice and pro-am rounds. PGA Tour guidelines require golfers to present themselves in a neat and clean manner at all times while in competition. This includes wearing full-length pants!

Spiranac is becoming something of a trailblazer in golfing fashion. With her growing following amongst the golfing community her voice could lead to a change in what many believed would be the golfing norm for years to come. It remains to be seen if her cries for change will fall on deaf ears, but we’re glad our icon Spiranac is spearheading this change.
