” Just seeing my wife. It just means a lot,” said an emotional Davis Thompson after winning the 2024 John Deere Classic. He was queried about the reason behind his state of mind after clinching an incredible victory over a talented field of golfers at TPC Deere Run. Interestingly, the golfer’s answer was his wife Holly Grace Robinson Thompson, whom he married much earlier than planned.
At the start of 2023, the two lovebirds were engaged and originally planning a wedding for December 16. However, the date was moved up to early April and then to May 27, to accommodate his soon-to-be wife’s mother, who was battling cancer at the time.
The two soulmates had just one month to plan everything. From finding a new baker and band to arranging a florist and asking her bridesmaid friends to find dresses, the golfer, his fiancée, and all their friends and family planned the “perfect” wedding. This allowed Grace to spend an extra month with her mother before she passed away on July 8, 2023.

“It was as perfect as it could have been!!!” exclaimed Davis Thompson’s wife on an Instagram post, “We were able to be married and enjoy about one more month with my mom on earth. It was the least I could ask or hope for considering the circumstances.” But then, what did they do on December 16, the day they originally planned to get married?
Six months after their wedding, the couple decided to enjoy their honeymoon. Grace shared on Instagram, recounting the experience, “We have endured extremely high highs and devastatingly low lows. We are blessed that God has chosen to strengthen and test our marriage so early on.”Despite the challenges, she spent an extra six months with the PGA Tour Pro, supporting him and helping him achieve his first PGA Tour win.

The 25-year-old topped the leaderboard at TPC Deere Run with a score of 28-under 256. The victory also earned him a winner’s share of $1,440,000 from the total $8 million prize pool. He achieved this by posting scores of 63-67-72-64 over the four rounds at the par-71, 7289-yard course, beating Michael Thorbjornsen, Luke Clanton, and C.T. Pan (tied for second) by four strokes.
However, his moment of the day was spotting his wife after the win. “I love her so much and so thankful she was able to make it,” revealed the golfer when asked about his reaction following the triumph. “Yeah, I mean, I just tried to stay present all day. When that putt finally went in, big sigh of relief.” The golfer can finally rest easy for the week, having clinched his first-ever victory on the men’s circuit. Take a bow, Davis Thompson!
