“He has broken my heart one too many times,” shared a forgiving Paige Spiranac before the 2023 Scottish Open. The diva was apparently alluding to how the Northern Irishman had failed to meet her expectations despite her picking the golfer as her favorite to win the 2023 PGA Championship. Now, almost a year has passed and it appears the model still seems to have a soft spot for Rory McIlroy even after his recent move that earned the ire of many fans.
The 4-time major champ was spotted leaving Pinehurst quickly as soon as Bryson Dechambeau holed the par putt on the 18th and clinched his second major title. This, in turn, led many in the community to turn against the athlete. Spiranac, however, took to don her ‘Guardian Angel’ shoes as she came forward to express her understanding of McIlroy while sympathizing with him.

“Hot take but I don’t care when athletes do this,” conveyed a supporting Paige Spiranac while hinting at how McIlroy had sped off in his USGA car. He had done so as he refused to speak to the media while refraining from congratulating DeChambeau on his victory.
The 31-year-old also didn’t shy away from conveying her admiration for the golfer’s performance on Sunday. She said, “He gave us everything he had on the course and gave us such an entertaining day,” while alluding to his fourth-round score of 69 (-1). The figures helped him total a 5 under 275 allowing him to lead the scoreboard at one point in time before unfortunately leveling with the LIV Golf Pro and then subsequently trailing behind him.
Paige Spiranac even went ahead to sympathize with the Northern Irishman all the while urging for others to do the same, “I feel for Rory right now and can’t even imagine how he’s feeling. Cut him a break.” Interestingly, this is the fourth time McIlroy has finished runner-up in a major after his win in 2014 at the Open Championship. Truly unfortunate for the pro!

Back at the 2024 PGA Championship, Bryson DeChambeau had stayed back to congratulate and embrace the champ Xander Schauffele for emerging victorious at the event. He did so while finishing T2 at just a stroke behind the current No. 3 on the OWGR. McIlory not following the LIV Golf Pro’s example led to many mocking the golfer for the same on the internet; “Rory should have taken a page from Bryson’s book of good sportsmanship. Remember when Bryson left the range to congratulate Xander at the PGA? The golf gods repaid his classy move.”
The defeat makes McIlroy the only player after Jack Nicklaus to finish inside the top ten a total of seven times after the legend did it in 1977-1982. This also caused many to issue jabs at the 35-year-old while dubbing him the “Greatest choker of all time.” Meanwhile, it truly does paint a despairing picture for the golfer who couldn’t end his 10-year major drought. It’s no surprise that Paige Spiranac stepped forward to show her support.
