The 2022 American Family Insurance Championship began on June 10 and has already finished playing the first round. It is the 12th event of the PGA Tour Champions’ 2022 season. And before one of the players claim the title, let’s find out what they are competing for, what the total purse is, and how much would each place win?
The purse money of the championship is $2.4 million. The champion would bag the $360,000 out of the purse money, which is, according to the PGA Tour Champions’ prize money distribution chart, the standard 15 percent payout.

Notably, the American Family Insurance Championship offers one of the biggest purses other than the majors of the Tour Champions. Furthermore, there are no cuts made in the event. Therefore, all of them win a part of the total purse as per their ranks.
While the prize money is the highlight of the championship, the tournament offers the Charles Schwab Cup points that will benefit mostly the winner. Each dollar earned will be counted as a regular-season point to qualify for the Charles Schwab Cup playoffs in 2022.
Furthermore, the point will also determine who gets the $2.1 million pool in the end. Only the top 5 with the most points will be eligible to receive the money.
Venue, field, and more about the championship
The University Ridge Golf Course hosts the 54-hole American Family Insurance Championship. The fans are allowed to watch the three-day official tournament. However, the course also hosts a Pro-Am event from Monday to Thursday, which is closed to the public.

According to the PGA Tour website, there are 81 players present on the field this year. However, only the top 54 players will get to play the second leg, whereas the top 35 will advance to the final round.
The field of the American Family Insurance Championship this year is qualified under different categories. This includes the exempt members of the World Golf Hall of Fame, winners of Champions Tour Majors in the past 3 years, and Q school players to fill the field.

Notably, Jerry Kelly is part of the field. He has won the event twice in a row in 2019 and 2021. He also won the 2022 Principal Charity Classic last week. Therefore, it will be fun to see whether the others can finally defeat Kelly this time or not.
