After 187 combined starts on the PGA Tour and Korn Ferry Tour, Brian Campbell, the Big Ten Player of the Year in 2014 for Illinois, has finally secured his first professional win. The 31-year-old earned victory at the Mexico Open in Vallarta, Mexico, sinking a 3-foot-7-inch birdie putt on the second playoff hole to defeat 20-year-old Aldrich Potgieter from South Africa. It’s been a long road for Campbell, but this win is a testament to his persistence and determination. While the American professional could not be any happier after bagging $1.26M, there was someone else too who could not contain their tears.

Kelsi McKee, Campbell’s long-term girlfriend, came rushing into the course the moment he finished putting in the second playoff. There was no stopping her, as she rushed into his arms and cried tears of joy. The video went viral on the Internet, leaving the fans overwhelmed. She is indeed his biggest support. And Brian Campbell does not deny it at all. In the winner’s press conference, on Sunday, Brian Campbell expressed his gratitude to his family and girlfriend for their unwavering support throughout his career.

“My family means everything. They are the sole reason why I’m here today. Without their support, I don’t know what I would be doing. They’re so special to me. They have supported me this whole time. It’s not all been good. I had a struggle period for many years. They’ve let me keep getting after it,” he said.

Since joining the Tour in 2017, Brian Campbell hasn’t had the chance to compete in many tournaments, with just 27 appearances over the past 8 years. Despite the long stretch without a victory, Campbell’s determination remains unwavering. How does he keep going week after week? It likely comes down to the strong support system he has at home. Being a professional golfer can be tough, both on the course and off, especially when wins are hard to come by.

That’s where Kelsi McKee comes in, providing the mental and emotional support Brian needed to keep pushing forward. Taking to her unwavering support, Brian Campbell added, “And Kelsi, I can’t say enough about her, she’s just my rock out here. I get to do what I get to do and she’s always there in my corner. It’s just been a blessing. Thank you so much.”

Being with a professional golfer comes with its own set of challenges, like occasionally stepping onto the course yourself. But Kelsi McKee doesn’t shy away from the experience. Brian Campbell shared a fun collage on his Instagram, showing the couple at Deer Creek Course at Landings Club, with a playful caption that read, “Loved having my photographer last week in Savannah @keeksmckee #shesgotskills.” It seems McKee was too busy capturing moments on camera to swing a club herself. Even in other posts where McKee isn’t visible, she’s still tagged, making it clear she’s the one behind the lens.

Beyond golf, the couple enjoys other adventures, like attending a New England Patriots game in Boston. While there aren’t any pictures from Gillette Stadium, Campbell shared a shot with “Go Pats…” written on it, wearing a wool hat with the team’s logo.
