Fans have been highly interested in knowing about the lives of professional golfers. For example, Bryson DeChambeau’s splendid success with his YouTube channel showcases what goes inside the professional golfer’s life. There have been many instances where other golfers have shared about their lives, which have always been received with delight from the fanbase. However, there have always been two sides to the story, which we see in the comments section. And that is what Michael Kim has experienced with his social media post.
The shining bright life that all fans think of professional golfers is just one side of the story. As a fan, we get to see what players are earning and how much they have earned throughout the season or in their careers. But, with the shocking revelation by Michael Kim, fans were both amazed and angry with the post. In a recent post on X, Kim shared his traveling and stay expenses for the season 2024. As per the photo shared by him, his expenses sum was around $92,698.
Now, with that much amount as expenses, fans were amazed by the cost that professionals have to bear just to be at the tournament. While the post even mentioned that it included minimum business class and no private jet travel. However, the majority of the fans were seen asking about why he was complaining about it.

How much money does a PGA Tour player make as compared to expenses?
Before 2022, the case was different as the players will have to make the cut for events in the PGA and have to be among the top to increase purse value. If they failed to do so, their earnings would be less, and they wouldn’t be paid enough to even cover their traveling expenses.

Ben Griffin, a PGA Tour player who once left the game due to a loss of motivation and credit card bills. He shared during a TikTok video about his expenses per event which was $5000 approx. and how important it was to make a cut in the tournaments. Struggling with this pressure, he decided to quit as a pro and got back to a desk job.
However, things have changed now with the base pay program introduced in 2022-23 as the players will get assured $500,000 each year. Additionally, for lower-rank players or missed-cut players, the PGA offers a reimbursement of $5000 to make up their expenses. However, there is still a vast gap between players who are in the top ranking and those who are at the bottom. Will this difference ever be reduced? How can the PGA Tour offer better opportunities to lower-rank players? What do you think about it? Share your insights with us in the comments section below.
