The BMW Championship, the second leg of the FedEx playoff, concluded on Sunday. After the ups and downs across four days, Matt Fitzpatrick finished tied second alongside Scottie Scheffler in the $20m tournament. Interestingly, at the same time, a similar scenario unfolded miles away with another member of the Fitzpatrick family.

While the 28-year-old golfer was competing at the Olympia Fields North Course, his younger brother Alex was also giving his all to win a golf tournament in a different part of the world. Unfortunately, both of them experienced a heartbreaking turn of events in the last round. Let’s find out more!

Matt, a Two-time PGA Tour winner, demonstrated exceptional performance in the second event of the FedEx Cup playoffs. At the BMW Championship, he achieved a remarkable score of 15-under 265. During the closing round, he shot a 66. If it wasn’t for a bogey on the final hole, things could have been different. He fell two short of winner Viktor Hovland’s score.

Interestingly enough, a similar occurrence unfolded in Northern Ireland with Alex Fitzpatrick. The talented 24-year-old golfer was participating in the professional European golf tournament, the ISPS Handa World Invitational. Here, just like his brother, he secured a second place, finishing five strokes behind the victorious Daniel Brown.

To share this news, Golf Digest took to Twitter (now X) and wrote, “The Fitzpatrick brothers were on the exact same page this weekend.”

It’s fascinating how fate can unfold in unexpected ways. Both brothers ended up achieving the same position in their individual golf events. It is also worth mentioning that Alex is heavily inspired by his brother’s golf passion.

Alex made his golfing debut as an amateur in 2018. However, the 2023 British Challenge Winner officially turned professional in 2022. Being an affiliate member of the European Tour, he commenced his journey at the 2022 Horizon Open as a pro golfer.

Alex also competed in his first major tournament, the 2023 Open Championship at Royal Liverpool. He finished T17, four strokes ahead of his brother Matt Fitzpatrick which was nothing short of extraordinary.
