The 2023 Wyndham Championship concluded on Sunday, with Lucas Glover claiming the title for the first time. Just like any other PGA Tour event, this tournament also painted its own story for each golfer. While some of the professionals fell short of achieving the cut on the challenging course, others conquered it gracefully.

One such player in the latter category has been Justin Thomas. Surprisingly, after missing the cut in numerous tournaments, JT finally made his mark with a T12 finish at Sedgefield Country Club. No doubt this score was full of quality and helped the golfer overcome the looming shadows of bad form. However, a disheartening prediction was also delivered alongside it, which was sort of anticipated by Thomas. As a matter of fact, this news dropped amidst the uncertainty circling JT’s Ryder Cup position.

As the Sedgefield greens wrapped up the final PGA Tour event of the season—the Wyndham Championship—many staggering details came forth, featuring numerous players. One such stunning story was the 71st finish of Justin Thomas in the FedEx Cup standings. This information indicated that the two-time major winner is out of the race for the FedEx Cup playoff tournaments.

As we already know that only the first 70 players on the FedEx list will move to Tennessee for the FedEx St. Jude Championship, JT wouldn’t be one of them. In fact, this will be the first time the golf icon has missed the playoffs since 2014. Also, the 2017 FedEx Cup witnessed the 30-year-old claiming the title to his name.

Regarding this disheartening conclusion to his 2023 season, Thomas also expressed his anguish. He said that this adversity that the 15-time PGA Tour winner has faced this year can be used to either shy away from a challenge or bravely encounter it. And he was proud to choose the hindmost.

Justin Thomas believed that despite 2023 being a tough season, he actually had fun battling it out while executing his game on the greens last week. However, even though he tried to look positively at the results of the 2023 cycle, his sincere confession came forth. “Beyond gutted to miss the playoffs, but I’m proud of how hard I fought,” was the culminating statement of the golf star.

What was even more astonishing was that somehow JT had predicted this outcome through a playoff confession just a day ago. While on one hand, this admission featured the FedEx Playoffs, on the other hand, it also highlighted the athlete’s Ryder Cup dream.

A ‘messed up’ confession from Thomas that staged his Ryder Cup aspiration

Justin Thomas’ efforts this season have been hard to miss. However, it still didn’t make room for a win for the golf icon to re-establish himself as one of the best PGA Tour players. Now, he has suffered the burden of missing the FedEx Playoffs as well. However, prior to the finale of the Wyndham Championship, the golfer expressed an uncanny confession regarding these playoffs.

Per the PGA Tour Pro, he would rather make it on the Ryder Cup team than the Playoffs. This strong aspiration of the golfer even drew out the comment from him saying, “Which is really, really messed up to say, but it’s just the truth“. This indicates how strongly he feels about the team event that is scheduled for next month.

There is no doubt that JT has been vocal about his dream to represent his homeland in Italy in late September. But there has been no confirmation regarding his inclusion. However, just a few weeks ago, the US Ryder Cup captain Zach Johnson showed confidence in Thomas’ abilities and said that he knows what the 2022 PGA Championship winner is capable of.
