Comparing Scheffler to Tiger Woods—Is Adam Scott out of his mind or onto something?

“I think that’s fair. I think all the stats back that up,” stated a convinced Adam Scott after finishing T4 at the 2024 TOUR Championship. What was he alluding to? Well, the athlete was interestingly comparing Scottie Scheffler to Tiger Woods, following the former’s scintillating run this season. But don’t be mistaken; the Australian pro drew a parallel between the 28-year-old golfer and a peak Woods.

“I think it is on par with those great years of Tiger’s,” continued Scott as he pointed out how hard it is to achieve what the 15-time major champion did between 1999-2009, “I think it’s very hard today for anyone to separate themselves as much as Scottie has. I don’t think we’ve seen that in a long time.”

Over the 2024 season, Scheffler has racked up a total of 16 top-10 finishes from 19 starts, including 7 victories. Moreover, he also clinched a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, which took place at Le Golf National. Even so, these stats and figures weren’t enough for many to agree with Adam Scott, as they took to bashing the Aussie in the comments.

Tiger Woods vs Scottie Scheffler; an Adam Scott comparison that failed to impress

Since the inception of LIV Golf in 2021, many top golfers have jumped to the Saudi-backed league after signing lucrative offers. As a result, many, including Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm, Brooks Koepka, and Dustin Johnson, among others, were banned from playing on the Jay Monahan-led circuit. A fan highlighted this, pointing out how the 48-year-old excelled during a time when such a division didn’t exist and there were full fields in contests, unlike the Signature events. A follower commented, “Love Adam Scott, but Tiger played against full fields,” while another dubbed Scott as silly; “Adam is being silly.” There was yet another enthusiast and Woods fan who responded, “Sorry will never compare Scottie to Tiger he doesn’t putt like TW nor intimidate nor play against the WORLDS best anymore and didn’t perform in Majors like TW.”

Vijay Singh, back in 2004, had put up a remarkable performance on the PGA Tour. Interestingly, he finished a total of 18 times in the top 10 with nine victories that season, followed by two runner-up finishes and a T3. A follower on X recounted this while taking a jab at Adam Scott: “Singh won 9 times in a season… people have short memories.”

Comparing Scheffler to Tiger Woods—Is Adam Scott out of his mind or onto something?

Have an interesting take?

Ever since Tiger Woods turned pro in 1996, he has teed off in numerous major championships. As a result, he has placed himself in the top 10 a total of 41 times, not to mention emerging victorious in 15 of them over the last 28 years. A user hinted at Scottie Scheffler’s stats while alluding to the current situation of the golf world following LIV Golf’s arrival. They responded, “The problem is he only won 1 major and that’s the only tourney where all the best players play,” and “He won 1 full-field event,” referring to the 2024 Masters win.

Regardless of what Adam Scott said during the press conference, Scottie Scheffler has certainly proved himself on the golf course. With such stats, he is undoubtedly one of the best golfers in the world. Now, the only thing remaining is to maintain his position as the world No. 1.
