Tommy Fleetwood is having an exceptional season so far. Despite not claiming any major wins to his name, the English golfer has managed to display his precise drives and determined putting on varied greens. His mastery was recently unveiled at the 2023 FedEx St. Jude Championship with a score of 14-under-par, where he finished merely a shot behind board leaders Lucas Glover and Patrick Cantlay.

Alas! This score wasn’t enough to register the golfer’s name in the playoffs, which was eventually triumphed by Glover for his second straight win on the PGA Tour. Concerning this failure to claim the $3.6 million title, Fleetwood opened up about his feelings about the tournament. Reassuringly, though, he was calm with the result.

After an impressive presentation of skills at the TPC Southwind golf course, Fleetwood took to the on-course interview where he answered a few questions concerning his performance. While the golfer did unfurl his feelings regarding the weather and the course, the primary focus remained on how the Englishman has been on the cusp of victory so many times now.

Highlighting his recent T3 finish, Fleetwood expressed that there hasn’t been much difference in the game for him. Elaborating the same, the 6-time European Tour winner said that this week has been just like any other day. While he believed that he did play well and it felt great, the results ended up being a little disappointing.

Despite voicing his discontent, the 32-year-old focused on the positives. Putting forth his opinion regarding the latter, Fleetwood said, “Take the positives along with like the sort of disappointment.” This was his mantra of accepting his final score at the $20 million event as he believed, “It’s better than being nowhere near.

Expressing an optimistic mindset despite achieving an unfavorable outcome, Fleetwood credited his current form. While the 32-year-old would have wanted to capitalize on his game prior to the final round, per the golfer, the process will eventually turn into a confident result.

Fleetwood believes a win is hovering in the near future

Although the 2017 Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship winner voiced his dissatisfaction with this latest result, Fleetwood stated that it was better this way. No doubt this year has been full of near misses for the golfer, as he himself claimed it to be “frustrating.” But the professional still believed he had to look at it from a rose-tinted glass.

Fleetwood believed that by continuing the same display, a victory would eventually fall under his belt. Trusting his game, the English golfer said, “Like I say, it’s easy to like [to] be on a downer about it, but at the end of the day, it’s much better than a lot of other scenarios.
