On May 17, in the early morning hours, when Scottie Scheffler was driving towards the Valhalla Golf Course for some warm-up routine before the second round of the PGA Championship, little did anyone expect the cops to show up and handcuff Scheffler. Fortunately, the 27-year-old golfer did not have to spend much time in police custody and was able to tee up for the second round. He arrived at the Valhalla golf course at around 9:12 ET about an hour before his tee-time. But why was he arrested in the first place?
Scheffler was taken in custody for reportedly misunderstanding the instructions of the cops and not listening to them during the traffic disturbance that took place as a result of the ill-fated accident; which resulted in the death of a PGA worker named John Mills. The 69-year-old was going to work when he was hit by a shuttle bus around 5 in the morning.
Recalling this scary moment, Mr. Inevitable admitted how he was “rattled, to say the least… I was just in shock, and I think my body was just — I was shaking the whole time. I was shaking for like an hour. I’m hopeful to put this to the side and play golf today.” And he made sure to deliver on his words.

The 2024 Masters started his second round with a birdie, and the Big Red (par 5, 10th hole) champion put forth a scintillating performance, finishing the day with a sub-70 score. As the whole golf world was in awe of Scheffler, many drew comparisons between the performances showcased by World No. 1 and World No. 2 during the second day at the Valhalla greens and took jibes at the latter.
Meanwhile, the 10-time PGA Tour winner expressed his remorse for the same and his sympathies for the family of the deceased before conveying his determination to dish out his best on the greens. “First of all, my sympathies go out to the family of Mr. Mills. One day he’s heading to the golf course to watch a tournament. A few moments later he’s trying to cross the street, and now he’s no longer with us. I can’t imagine what they’re going through. My heart—I feel for them. I’m sorry.”
Scheffler, as a result, scored an impressive 5-under 66 on Friday, which included a total of six birdies and a bogey, the latter of which came at the par-3, 11th hole known as the ‘Holler’. This helped the 27-year-old jump to the fourth position on the leaderboard (before the suspension of the round) with an overall figure of 9-under par after two days while being tied with three other athletes: Bryson DeChambeau, Mark Hubbard, and Thomas Detry.
Rory, however, could only dish out a 1-over par when he finished the par-4, 17th hole (Straight Up) on the back nine. He was much lower on the scoreboard, at T22 (before the suspension of the round), totaling an overall score of 4-under. As he finished the day’s play, he was 17 places below where he was on Thursday.
A tweet was shared on X (formerly Twitter) by Super 70s Sports, pointing out how Scheffler was able to dish out a notable display of golf despite being detained by the police in the morning before going ahead to mock the Northern Irishman: “Today we learned Scottie Scheffler can literally be charged with a felony and then shoot 66 in a major just a few hours later. If Rory hears a squirrel fart he’ll shoot 73.”

Things did take a pretty disappointing turn for both the PGA Tour pros after the third round. Scottie Scheffler found himself down at T24, while McIlroy took the T19 spot. Even though the 26-time PGA Tour winner is a few ranks ahead of Scheffler. However, the golf community already dished out their verdict under the tweet, all the while taking a jab at the 4-time major champ.
Rory McIlroy’s divorce overshadowed by Scottie Scheffler’s arrest?
On Monday, Rory McIlroy filed for divorce from his wife, Erica Stoll, to whom he was married for 7 years. He did so while divulging how his marriage was “irretrievably broken.” The two also have a daughter together, Poppy Kennedy McIlroy, who is almost 4 years old. He moved for the separation and filed the documents at a court in Florida while expressing how he wanted to “ensure this difficult time is as respectful and amicable as possible.”
Drawing on the divorce, a fan went ahead to comment, “Rory was thinking that his divorce would be the big story… Scottie was like ‘Hold my beer’.” Following the jab at McIlroy’s separation, another user couldn’t help but allude to the sub-par performance that he dished out on the two days, especially during the second round, before commenting, “And yet I always talk myself into some sort of bet on Rory.”

While en route to the Valhalla Golf Course, the Louisville Metro Police arrested Scheffler and detained him on various charges. He reportedly tried to cross near the scene of the deadly crash that left a pedestrian dead in the early morning, resulting in him being charged with “Second-degree assault of a police officer (Felony), Third-degree criminal mischief (Misdemeanor), Reckless driving (Violation), and Disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic (Misdemeanor).”
A follower compared the same with the number of birdies he carded on Friday (six) before commenting, “The man is a badass! He had more birdies than the criminal charges he received this morning.”Another follower, meanwhile, couldn’t help but agree with the fan before responding how it would seem if the 2-time Masters champ even went ahead to win the tournament, “Scottie is gonna come out of Louisville with the PGA cup and more street cred than any golfer in the field.” There was even a mugshot of the No. 1 golfer in the world being circulated online, which resulted in another person commenting humorously, “On Sunday, he should wear an orange polo.”
