The second signature event on the 2024 PGA Tour calendar is here! The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am is finally set to kick off on February 1st and will continue until the 4th of the month.
The tourney would be played on two courses, the Pebble Beach Golf Links and the Spyglass Hill Golf Course, and would witness the top golfers on the Tour. Surely a much-anticipated event.
The contest boasts a field of 80 athletes battling it out against each other for glory and a claim on the title, not to mention a cut from the total elevated prize pool of $20 million and 700 FedEx points. But while all is said and done, only one person will lift the trophy, beating the likes of everyone else. So, who could it be from the list of skilled golfers?

The limited field no-cutter event would consist of top players from the top 50 eligible players of the 2023 FedEx Cup standings, including the next 10 from Fall. Moreover, they would be accompanied by the professionals who managed a win on the 2024 season thus far, along with the top 5 in the Aon Swing 5 points list. Nevertheless, it is natural for the community to have some favorites among the same.
1. Justin Rose
The 43-year-old is the current defending champion of the signature event, who emerged victorious at the 2023 edition with a scintillating 18-under-269. He would be hoping to keep ahold of his title as the current No.45 tees it off against the powerful field. The 11X PGA Tour champ also boasts a total of 5 top-10 finishes in 2023, with the last one coming off from the Hero World Challenge in December where he placed T8. Although the 1X major winner is still yet to open his books on the 2024 season, he is undoubtedly a crowd favorite, this time around.
2. Rory McIlroy
Fresh off a win at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, the Northern Irishman would look to keep his momentum going in his first PGA Tour event of 2024. Interestingly, he would hope to keep his lead on the OWGR as the current No.2 following the recent victory which carded him a 70 percent bonus owing to the two wins he clinched within 52 weeks; at the 2023 Hero Dubai Desert Classic and the Genesis Scottish Open in the same year. All in all, the 34-year-old’s performance so far has been nothing short of amazing, especially with the two top-10 finishes in 2024 including the win and the runner-up position at the Dubai Invitational, making him a force to be reckoned with at the upcoming event.
3. Scottie Scheffler
Although the American has not clinched a victory yet in 2024, his recent performances, coupled with his position on the world rankings do make him a player to be looked out for in the field. The current world No.1 after a victory at the Hero World Challenge in December, Scheffler managed to finish T5 at the first signature event of 2024, The Sentry. Besides, he would surely be hoping to replicate his 2023 performance where he placed a total of 17 times inside the top-10 positions. What’s more, the 27-year-old would want to increase his lead on the world rankings as well with his first-ever AT&T Pro-Am appearance.

4. Xander Schauffele:
The 30-year-old, in the three events he played in 2024, has clinched a top-10 finish, the best of which came from the American Express at T3. Schauffele‘s eyes would surely be on the cup, especially after the close finishes he had in January. Moreover, his 11 top-10 finishes in the previous year stand as enough evidence of his capability on the greens. With a victory, the current world No.5 could close the gap between himself and the top golfers on the OWGR, including Scheffler and McIlroy.

The American would indubitably be a tough opponent to crack on the course. Interestingly, his T6 finish at the Hero World Challenge in December followed by a T3 at The Sentry, would have surely filled him up with confidence, making him a top contender to win the trophy. The 30-year-old would look to replicate, or better yet, outperform his 2023 self, where he placed a total of 7 times inside the top 10. Look out for Spieth!
The two-course challenge at the AT&T Pro-Am:
The golfers would be playing at the Pebble Beach Golf Links on all four days, while the tournament would witness the athletes at the Spyglass Hill Golf Course only on the first two days. The former of the two was designed by Jack Neville and Douglas Grant and has hosted the upcoming tournament every year as a tradition since 1947. Interestingly, the grounds, boasting a rugged coastline, wide-open vistas, and Cliffside fairways, have hosted six U.S. Opens, the last of which took place in 2019, and are slated to host many more events in the coming years.

Meanwhile, the Spyglass Hill Golf Course is rated one of the toughest in the world at 75.5 with a slope rating of 144. It boasts a natural beauty that can be dubbed “the Greatest Meeting of Sand and Trees” owing to its sweeping ocean views situated along with a daring dunescape. What’s more, the 6th, 8th, and 16th holes are sure to prove a challenge to the professionals on Tour. Nevertheless, one thing is for sure: the golf world is in for a scintillating weekend!
