If there is anyone who has witnessed enough drama on the men’s circuit this year, it’s the current No. 1 golfer in the world. Scottie Scheffler experienced his share of misfortunes (remember the infamous arrest?) as well as top moments. However, the recently ended Charles Schwab Challenge proved to be a tad difficult to handle for the golfer despite him finishing T2.

The American pro was tied for the runner-up position alongside Keegan Bradley at 9-under 271. He did so while scoring figures of 72-65-63-71 over the four days of play. But Sunday’s round came out to be the golfer’s “first over-par final round since the 2023 Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard” where he finished T4 (7-under par) with scores of 68-72-68-73 at the par-72 course.

The final round 1-over par 71 came as a result of him carding out two birdies and three bogeys. Interestingly. with the T2 finish at the event, he has managed to garner 11 top-10 finishes in the 2024 season from 13 just starts. Moreover, it also marks his ninth runner-up finish on the men’s circuit throughout his 7-year professional career, the last of which came at the 2024 Texas Children’s Houston Open.

The recent performance has also helped cement Scheffler’s position at the top spot of the FedEx Cup Standings by rewarding him with 245 points for the finish. The professional is currently at T1 with a projected figure of 4,351.250 points and is 1,662.667 points more than Xander Schauffele who is in the second spot.

Scheffler had started the contest on a sub-par note with him scoring 72(+2) on Thursday. But two flawless rounds involving a total of 12 birdies over Friday and Saturday helped him shoot past the other golfers to the second position before another over-par score. Meanwhile, the athlete’s score on Sunday marks his third over-par figure after the recent arrest fiasco with the Louisiana PD.

Is Scottie Scheffler’s performance affected by the arrest?

The American professional was charged with a felony second-degree assault on a police officer as well as reckless driving among other things. Although recent video evidence does not show the pro acting aggressively, he was arrested during the time by the police officers. But the interesting thing occurred after he came back from jail to play the PGA Championship.

The 2024 Masters champ then went ahead to hit a scintillating 5-under 66 in the second round of the major championship. But the third round saw him break his 41 rounds par-or-better streak as he registered a 73(+2) on Saturday thereby decreasing his chances of claiming the title. Fast forward to the recently ended Charles Schwab Challenge, he again scored over-par numbers two more times while finishing second. The fans can’t, thus, help but worry for the professional and wonder if the arrest truly has harmed the golfer!
