We are heading into the fourth event of the PGA Tour calendar, and things are about to get exciting! This week, the action shifts to the stunning Torrey Pines Golf Course in La Jolla, California, from January 22–25. Not only is it one of the most picturesque stops on the Tour, but it’s also the final event in the first Aon Swing 5 stretch of the season. So yeah, there’s a lot on the line.

While World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and No. 2 Xander Schauffele won’t be teeing it up this week, Collin Morikawa, Max Homa, and Justin Thomas are also missing from the field. But don’t worry—there’s still no shortage of talent to keep things interesting. Hideki Matsuyama and rising star Ludvig Åberg are both set to make the competition fierce. And let’s not forget last year’s champion, Matthieu Pavon, who’ll be out there defending his title.

The winner will take home the whopping $1.674 million from the $9.3 million purse, not to mention a crucial 500 FedEx Cup points haul. Everything sounds perfect, right? Well, hold on—there’s one wildcard that might shake things up: the weather. While everyone is hyped for the action to tee off any moment now, Mother Nature might just have a few surprises of her own. So will the players be treated with sunny California skies, or could there be some unpredictable twists?

Will the rain be the spoilsport at the 2025 Farmers Insurance Open?

Well, players and viewers can sigh relief as the weather is perfect to start the tournament off. For Round 1, expect temperatures around 20°C, which is cool and comfortable. Winds will be coming from the north at 9 km/h, with gusts up to 24 km/h—enough to keep things interesting but nothing too crazy. With just 26% cloud cover and no chance of rain or thunderstorms, everything seems to be perfect weather-wise.

Heading into Round 2 on Thursday, and the weather’s staying just as friendly. Temperatures will climb to about 25°C, with a bit stronger wind coming from the east-northeast at 19 km/h, gusting up to 35 km/h. The skies will be clear, and again, there’s a 0% chance of rain or storms.

Round 3 on Friday will continue the trend, with temps at 22°C and a light breeze from the northwest at just 6 km/h, with gusts only hitting around 20 km/h. Expect 39% cloud cover, but don’t worry—there’s still no rain in sight, according to AccuWeather.

So, overall, it looks like the weather’s setting up for some ideal conditions… at least, until the final round.

What’s in store for the final round?

So far, the weather’s been smooth sailing, but Sunday’s looking like it might get a little tricky. The forecast predicts a drop in temperature to 15°C, with winds picking up from the south-southwest at 17 km/h and gusting to 41 km/h. Add to that 78% cloud cover, and an 85% chance of rain, with a 17% chance of thunderstorms.

Not exactly ideal golf conditions. We’re expecting around 3.0 mm of rain over a couple of hours, which could definitely impact the flow of the game. If you’re planning to watch, it might be time to pack a raincoat, an umbrella, or both—you’re definitely going to want to be prepared!
