Scottie Scheffler’s arrest, no doubt, shocked the community. Even so, soon after he was detained, Michael Kim, a fellow PGA Tour pro, jumped to his defense. “I assume Scottie thought there was a small issue causing some traffic,” wrote the athlete on X. “With a courtesy car, cops usually let us go thru ahead so we’re not caught up behind unnecessarily.” A week has not gone by, and it looks like he isn’t alone in expressing support for the No. 1 golfer. Even Xander Schauffele, the 2024 PGA Championship winner, had similar thoughts.

He’s a good dude,” said Schauffele in an interview with Colt Knost and Drew Stoltz on the latest episode of GOLF’s Subpar podcast. He also mentioned how “there is not a single bad bone in that guy’s body to where he would want to hurt anybody or anything,” while alluding to the 2024 Masters champ. Scheffler is currently facing four charges, with the most severe being felony second-degree assault on a police officer after he allegedly tried to go around an officer directing traffic.

Schauffele then took on a comical undertone to hilariously point out, “The only thing he hurts is a golf ball and other competitors’ feelings most of the time, but that’s like literally the extent of the damage Scottie Scheffler is capable of doing. He’s a solid guy all around.” The 1-time major champ did not let go of the opportunity to issue a friendly jab at the fellow American for all the finishes he has raked in this season (10 top-10 finishes out of 11 starts, including four wins), not to mention the rest of his career victories that made him No. 1 on the OWGR.

However, the 2024 PGA Championship winner did not hesitate to express his best wishes for Scheffler before delivering his verdict. “It sounds like, based on what I’ve read, he’s going to come out unscathed…”And hopefully, everyone on both sides of the parties is okay with what happened, and we can move on in a peaceful manner,” while referring to the 27-year-old and Det. Bryan Gillis, the latter of whom was allegedly injured due to the athlete.

The 30-year-old initially thought it was a prank when he first heard of the news, but he realized it wasn’t. He said the same thing in an interview with Barstool Sports: “As soon as I saw it, I thought it was a prank, and then I saw it on the news, and I was like, ‘Holy Smokes! This actually happened'” But even the seriousness of the matter did not stop him from making fun of the 10-time PGA Tour champ.

Scottie Scheffler was made fun of by Xander Schauffele and Co.

Schauffele, during the interview with Barstool Sports after his recent major win, divulged how the No. 1 golfer was heckled on a group chat: “We have a group chat with our physio, our team, me, Gary, J.T., Jordan [Spieth], Scottie, Pat—we all share the same physio, so the boys were heckling Scottie a little bit.” The golfers truly know how to turn a bad situation into amusement.

The fun didn’t stop there. The golfer also revealed how the members went ahead to change the display picture of the group to that of the professional’s mugshot before expressing confidence in the #1 athlete on the OWGR: “He handled it really well in Scottie Scheffler fashion. I mean, he’s a good dude.”

With so much support pouring in from all sides, many fans would surely want the 2024 Masters Champ to come out unscathed. Regardless, they can only wait and watch what follows the pro’s arraignment, which was rescheduled from May 21 to June 3.
