18.5-11.5! Quite a dismal set of numbers if you’re on the losing side. Even more so if you look at the number of losses that the International squad has raked in over the years ever since its inception in 1994. Apparently, Adam Scott would agree, for he has been a part of the team for a majority of its editions, including the recent one. But will there be a next one? Well, Tom Kim seems to think there would be!

The 44-year-old was spotted in an interview following his team’s loss to the American squad when the reporter popped the question about his future plans. His reply? “Yeah, sure,” said the golfer as he added, “I think I can play for another couple years.” That’s not all. He even expressed the desire for his team to come out victorious all the while being part of the same before retiring from the sport and the event. “I’ve come this far. If I can play in a couple more years and contribute a point, then I’d love to be on a winning Presidents Cup team.”

The golfer has, throughout the years, teed off a total of 11 times at the biennial event, including the 2003 edition, when the squad tied it with the American team. However, a win was what he wanted as he said, “I believe there’s something happening with this team internally under this shield. I’d love to push along and give it one more shot if I can.”

Tom Kim, meanwhile, interrupted the golfer to add how just ‘one more shot’ won’t be enough, for he added, “Let’s make it three more. Three more.” Quite heartwarming, to be honest. And consequently, the Australian responded with a compliment as well, all the while hinting at the fellow golfer’s potential plans for the future, “Tom will play in 20 of these. He’s got two before I even played one.”

The 22-year-old golfer has, on the other hand, teed off in the biennial event a total of two times, the first of which he did back in 2022. Although a win at the Presidents Cup would not exempt him from the mandatory military service that all South Koreans have to take part in, his enthusiasm to win the same can’t be questioned. Just like how Adam Scott conveyed in the interview!

“I have a lot of fun with these guys,” said the Australian golfer. “I told them at the start of the week it’s them who is motivating me and inspiring me to make this team.” He then went ahead to praise the kind of talent that the International team boasted this time around, allowing them to rake in 11.5 points. “The standard of golf is so high,” added Scott who was inspired by the same, “And it’s getting harder for me to keep up, but it’s them that I look to to see what the standard is that I need to compete and be on this team.”

The 44-year-old, this time around, managed to card a total of two points from the five matches he teed off in at the Royal Montreal Golf Club. Boasting a figure of 2-3-0, he won two Foursome matches while losing 2 Fourballs and a Sunday Single, the last of which he suffered against Collin Morikawa, 2&1. Regardless, if he does manage to keep up his form, the 14-time PGA Tour Pro has every chance to make his plans come true with another Presidents Cup appearance at Medinah!
